As much as AB is getting grilled by some on here for his bowling choices at the end the bowlers themselves must be grilled for the length bowled! That last 6 was a full toss by Morne if I'm not mistaken. That is not ABs fault. And when they showed Gul's pitch map it showed how short most of the bowling to him was. He is not a top end batsmen. What happened to bowling good lengths or block hole deliveries. Yeah, he might get lucky with the odd four but he is hardly going to be smashing them for 6 like the length balls he was getting and lining up and swinging.

Albie comes in at 5 REGARDLESS of the situation. Even if its the 5th over he comes in at 5. Same with AB even if he has to come bat in the 1st over.
Your big hitters and best players need to play the most overs.

We were cruising then Kallis gets hammered in one over and the entire complexion of the game changed.
That's T20, no time to experiment, no time for strategies, no time to make up for lost opportunities.
One bad/good over can swing your situation from being down and out to being on top. Fickle format which is what makes it so exciting.
After watching Kallis and then Albie get hammered in consecutive overs, it would take a captain with big balls to bring on Duminy and Botha as opposed to Morne and Dale. Defies one's cricketing instincts.
In hindsight that's what was required but on the day, in the moment, not such an easy call.
Bloody disappointing, a game where we shouldn't have come close, to get so close only to lose from a position where we were dominant.... hurts like hell...

After Kallis getting hammered, Albie shouldn't have come in at all. I think that's the issue.

Anyway it's given that we need to win the next 2 matches. What we need is for Pakistan to lose their next 2 matches, then it doesn't really matter who wins between India and Aus.

Yes, that's my biggest issue. Especially as we still had 2 overs of Botha in hand. The required rate went from 10.5 to 7.5 during Albie's over and that was effectively the game gone right there. It wasn't even like he kept the pace on too long or anything like that. He brought the pace back, the pace got hammered and he then persisted with the pace.

That's the thing. 15th over went for 3 runs, Pakistan were 76/7 and on the ropes, SA in control.
Kallis (1/1 at this stage) comes on in the 16th and gets caned for 16, Okay, freakishly bad over, fair enough.
Albie have a bowl (1/6 at this stage)!! BOOM, 20 off the 17th over and defending a modest score of 133 that's the game. No margin for error,2 big overs and it's game over for SA but I say again, for the captain to foresee that particular outcome is impossible.
And Umar won't play an innings like that again in this World cup.

Yeah but it's at the stage of the innings where they were always going to go after pace. That's the kind of foresight we need in a captain - a proactive approach rather than a reactive one. Spin throughout the match was proving very difficult to play. The only proven pace bowlers he should stick with at the end are Morne and Steyn.
Yeah I agree with this. Kallis getting hit was one thing but then why do you turn to the worst bowler in the team to bowl the follow up over. Steyn or Botha or even Duminy should've been given the ball. I think if the spinners had flighted it, Gul or Akmal would have been drawn out and gotten stumped or skied one.

It will happen again when facing Oz/India.
Kallis must learn in 20 over cricket that if he bats and bowls he has to aim to bat at a higher run rate than what the opposition get off his bowling. Batted 12 of 18 ball for a strike rate of 4 an over.
The one over of Albie killed us.

I believe Morne Morkel should be left out because he has been expensive in his last couple matches and lonwabo tsobebe should in because of his variations on a slow wicket for the next match.

Quite possible. I have little faith when it comes to SA in big tournaments. Doesn't mean we won't watch and hope and shout our lungs out for them.
Tactically, there were a number of blunders today.
Say again though, T20 is too fickle a format for tactics to play that much of a role. I just don't believe one has that much control over the outcome of the match. It's more about the teams collective raw talent than team tactics.

I'm tired of watching our team losing in a big match against a team in a big tournament. If they lose in the next match, I will quit supporting them when they play in a major tournament.
I hope Oz will survive against India's spin attack when they bat. I want Oz or SA to win this tournament.
