So been trying to set this up for spouse but for the 1st time ever it seems well.. broken.

Basically it doesn’t seem to want to pull the iCloud Drive (Desktop & Documents) contents down. It seems like it wants to make a new one even though it is the same user(users have 1 of these which is synced accords devices).

I saw a few interesting things.. the reporter free space is the same across all devices except.. finder on the problem machine which reports excluding the drive contents it’s refusing to pull down

Been reading all kinds of support forums and it seems like there is no specific solution other than retrying +/- Apple Support doing something on iCloud servers.

Anyone know of a solution?

Permissions issue? That's an odd one to say the least

So figured it out.. nothing wrong with set up.

Basically iCloud via Big Sur seems to sync everything in the background(cloud work and local) and when it’s done pulling indexes and generating the shortcuts etc then only it displays.

Essentially it’s a UX fail as the speed of you connection makes little difference to it so as a user you go.. this is weird.. nothing happening.. in the mean time it is doing something.. just not indicating in any form it’s progress.

As a new Mac user, it only took me half a day to write off iCloud completely. The upload speeds are disgraceful on my 200Mbps fibre connection. Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, IceWarp, pCloud, Box, Mediafire, Mega and others have all uploaded reliably at line speed. I think I might legitimately have died from old age before iCloud was finished uploading 250GB of work files.

I was moving stuff from Google Drive. In the end I took out a Dropbox Plus account and the upload was done in a single day.

(Google Drive for business is busted for me on an M1 MBA)
