ICT skills shortage a major problem

I'm third year IT. Did IT also a few years back and alot has changed. Most ppl think if you do IT you know alot about computers and hardware. The reality today is that IT is much more business oriented than ever before. When you develop a system you have to understand how a business works also from the owners point of view. Business Analysis is more integrated with IT than ever before. ERP systems CRMs SCM systems is what businesses are focusing on to gain competitive global advantages over each other.

1) Never, ever underestimate the importance of theoretical knowledge, i.e. go and study your subject. And never stop studying.

2) Then convert your knowledge into practical experience by applying it, i.e. get a related job.

3) Then balance your theoretical knowledge with your practical work and fine-tune your understanding of your subject, i.e. get experience.

4) Whatever your subject, do it with passion. If not, you're in the wrong job and you should get out.

Do the above 4 (equally important) things and the money will find you.
