IDE interfaces face imminent extinction

"Imminent extinction" - iow from a South African perspective its longevity is assured?

 I still have IDE drive's!
Well should upgrade by 2008, then 3GB/s SATA goodness will wash over me! ;) and trust me there is a HUGE difference between IDE's 100MB/s & 3GB/s :)

is there actually a speed diffrence between a sata dvdrw's and a ide one ?
i think just been converted to sata for mobos that dont have ide ports anymore

LOL !!!

and the Stiffie drive is also extinct.... and YET, every mobo bought STILL has the connector!

I'm getting a SATA DVD drive just because the cable is so much smaller, great for airflow compared to IDE. I don't know how much better it is for speed in a DVD drive...

I have an 80Gb Sata hard drive in my machine:) and IDE cdrom and dvdrw drives. Oh and a stiffy as well:p

I didn't install the hard drive in my machine --> was already installed when I bought it. But I hear that the SATA hard drive detection in the bios is different from an IDE. How so?
