So i commute everyday between JHB and PTA using my bike. I employ lane splitting which is driving between the fast and middle lanes as most bikers do, and yes this is legal.

Anyway what gets my blood boiling are these IDIOTS who fly past in the emergency lane on the right hand side. You think you are so clever but have you ever thought of this:

1. IT IS ILLEGAL
2. There are all sort of debris on the outside which you shoot up
3. You scare the bajeezus out of car drivers who then swerve into the area bikes use to lane split
4. You give all bikers a bad rep

So really i hope every single one of you has a nice wake-up call one day

I don't mind bikers at all, in fact I move over for them to squeeze through, but yeah flying like a bat out of hell in the emergency lane is just plain daft.

Fully agreed, most bikers are a bunch of c***s. I commuted on my bike for 7 years, and believe me, the good ones are few and far between.

I wouldn't go that far, but the BMW riding Ewen McGregor wannabe's standing are such a bunch of wa**ers haha they crack me up.

all bikers are idiots.... at least all those who I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. :(

What gets me is this very visible "Think Bike" campaign.
I don't see the sense behind it.
Surely the bikes should be riding in a manner that makes them visible, safe and accepted as normal road users.
And yet by far the large majority (almost 100%) of all Bike Riders who go past me are ...

1) exceeding the speed limit.
2) pushing between cars moving at high when it is clearly unsafe to do so.
3) moving too close to vehicles, both behind and alongside.
4) rude, impatient and arrogant

There was another thread on the subject, a while back. A lot of bikers specifically joined to tell us how wrong we are, how selfish car drivers are, and how awesome and polite bikers are.

Not all of them, the supermen are so cool, the ones who wear shorts and a drimac flapping in the wind lol.

I totally agree, as a biker myself (don't currently ride) there are a lot of idiots making us look bad, doing dangerous things like overtaking in emergency lanes (left and right) etc. We already have a big advantage being able to lane split, let's keep it at that.

I have no issue with bikers (I am not a biker myself) but there is always the few that make the majority look bad.

I also try to be considerate to them (as I try to be with all people sharing the road with me).

I thank each and every driver who moves over, trust me us bikers do appreciate it. Sometimes we cant say thanks just due to the hand controls being used at the second of passing the car who moved over.

You get way more idiots on bikes than u get polite guys on bikes I agree, but they give ALL of us a bad name, so i implore those of u doing the emergency lane riding to either stop doing it or accept the fact that you will hit that concrete barrier at some point in the future

I move out of the way for them too, but it's highly irritating when they travel on either side of you. What happens if you move out of the way for one, only to hit another one on the other side?

I generally don't mind lane-splitting, but I wish they would pick two lanes to split and stick to that, for example the middle and fast lane.

Same goes for drivers, cyclists, runners and pedestrians in this country.

Bikes are air-cooled so need to keep running at a reasonable speed. I move over for them.

This is why lane splitting shoult only be done between the fast lane and the lane to the left of it. I never split anywhere else.

MY POINT EXACTLY, Its a privilege not a right to lane split so why abuse it

I remember my friend (with his gf on a scooter at the time) hit a car because the drunken person didn't indicate that she was turning so they went flying over the car,the woman gets out and says not again and leaves them:mad:

EDIT: Both of the helmets the wore had huge scrape marks so make sure you strap yours on properly ;)
