Idle electricity usage.

Then how is it possible for @Dolby to have consistent units each month?

It's a tiered system the more you use the more you pay. So if you use the same units and stay within the tier you will pay the same.
If on prepaid you can use the system to your benefit.
So on Eskom 600 Units is the when the rate changes.
If I only use 500 Units in Summer and say 700 Units in winter, I buy 550 Units every month end up with a surplus of about 50 Units every month , by the time winter comes along i will have a credit amount on the meter, I still only buy 550 Units but can still use 700 Units and not pay more.

City of Jhb is 500, 1000 , 2000 and 3000

The name of the game is consistency and avoiding anything that attracts attention. Even with post paid, don't do things like drawing no power over extended periods.

Tell me about consistency - when i get home my wife tells me if she or the kids used anything extra that day.
If your Units are a bit high it's because i did .... :D

At least yours say something. My wife and daughters don't give two schits about what goes on on our meter. They'll blowdry hair, bake cakes, use the tumble dryer without a care in the world. The only time they'll mention electricity is when the metre starts beeping (when there's 32kWh left)

Put main geyser on a timer and usage halved. Is that normal?Screenshot_2019-06-21-14-41-41.jpg

Eish how did you train your wife like that?

Probably because any money saved on electricity ends up with something for her

I have the opposite - i get told why are you buying electricity this month you have way too much left.

I actually do - think i have amassed about 900 units surplus.

Maybe geyser thermostat is busted - not switching off when hot enough .

Current draw around 7.5kwh

2 of my geysers running and taking 5kwh

I switched off the tenant and the usage then drops too 276w which is basically the fridges and modem.

This confirms that there isn't an electricity leak. As I can account for all the usage.

The 2kwh going to the tenant I need to confirm that it is being charged to them, the way. I assume the tenant is using a heater 24/7 which may be the reason for the high usage .

The guys who use efergy monitors, how does it work does it transmit wirelessly?

EG I want to monitor 4 DB boxes but they are all on different parts of the property, would it be possible to do this?

The CT's connect to transmitters which then wirelessly transmit to the hub which is connected to your switch. So the CT's and transmitters can all be on separate boards, just as long as they not too far from the one central hub.

I see it says 50m, going to try it out and see if it works. Need to pick up a kit. Do you recommend the engage hub seems the best option.

That's what I got + additional transmitters and CTs

Yes, that should work for you.

You install this with the CT clamps at DB(s)

Then connected to network is this small Hub

The transmitters send the value every few seconds (you can set), and it send it to Hub, that send it to the database.
You can use App, or Web interface to see realtime details or historical data.

Here is some screenshots of app

You can add 5 transmitters per kit, and we had one at the inverter to show load.

I was cheaper to buy the transmitters and clamps with the old displays (damaged box items), than buying the CT clam and Transmitter kits, so I connected this display to the Main Transmitter, so it show overall usauge.

The new displays is nicer looking.

The damaged boxes you got was from Ellie's in booysens?

I want this so that I can exactly how much I'm consuming vs the tenant. Also to reconcile between how much the tenant is loading into the sub prepaid meter vs how much is being used.

This will then tell me if any usage is being stolen per se.

There's something VERY wrong with your geyser.

To put things in perspective: my home used 2.4kwh since I've left for work this morning. The geyserwise will turn the geyser on at 18:00 to heat the water to 55 degrees C so it will yank another unit or so from the usage.

Bear in mind its raining in CT and its school holidays so at least two of my TV's are on at any given time with the kids at home. Those TV's grab 28w per hour. 1561131215117.jpeg

My one geyser is on for 4 hrs a day at 2.5kw per hour is 10kw. It gets emptied both times.

The second one is on for 8 hours a day now and has used 12kw over the past 24hrs.
