it sounds like you are referring to accent and by that logic any one who is not a first language english speaker (or more accurately anyone who doesn't have a "white" accent) should just stfu because they cannot sing "properly"

It seems to me that any English accent used by English descendants is a "correct" accent. For example although white people from the USA, Austrailia and South Africa have different accents, because some are of direct English descent it is classified as "correct". Whereas a Romanian, Italian or German white person's accent is "wrong".

That being said I'm black and have Dstv (14 years and counting) but I don't watch idols because it bores me out of my mind

I think that is part of the problem but correct pronunciation is important!
When people say: eWindow washaa
instead of window washer

I did not watch Idols, I don't have access to the MNET / Idols whatever channel, I didn't vote for anyone (Mara can call me an equal opportunities racist towards every contestant).

I agree, I don't buy that "It's not my mother tongue so I do not have to pronounce it correctly" nonsense. We all have the same biology when it comes to tongues, lungs and vocal chords right? Laziness is what it is. I am currently learning Japanese and dammit I will get the pronunciation down to a T if it's the last thing I do.
 
Well she has a point, the majority of black people do not have DStv because of the insane prices...check out Pretoria West neighborhoods...middle classish, at least 200 houses, maybe only 30 have DStv dishes.

Chances are if more black people were watching this show, the white guy probably wouldn't have won. It's just the way it is especially here in SA. Racial problems still exist, look at the recent posts that showed salaries, blacks(colored included) were paid the lowest, despite them being the MAJORITY of the population.

Lol, let's ALL be realistic for once and admit we have a long f'n way to go.

if you as a judge have to judge a person on talent and cannot hear mispronunciation of words in a pop song then you should not be a judge, it's a different matter if you tell the person you need to work on your vocals or whatever when you hear that.

You also forget people go crazy with voting. Just cos he got a million votes doesnt mean he'll sell a million albums, more like 100'000 (just an example)
 
you know if this entire thing was about the best talent we would have had 10 purely qualified musician judges to decide who wins and who doesn't, but its a TV show, it makes money out of TV viewers and that is why they choose. Its a very simplistic view to divide the right and poor into black and white.
 
Hahahahaha! Mara Louw has always been a joke and has always helped to lower the quality of the show (even further). Didn't Idols get a black presenter now? (And yes, he is crap as a presenter and no it's not because he's black.) Wasn't she (Mara) a black judge? Didn't Idols already have 3 non-white winners? I hope Idols gets canned for good, but if it doesn't I'm glad this drunk b*tch won't be on the show again.

Im no big fan of this show but watch it occasionally, but really, was just wondering why black people feel they are entitled to things, just because of the history in SA! FFS, I thought that black chick Sindy was pretty damn good, as a white guy myself - I felt she could have taken it, but a white guy won - so who frikken cares!!!

I do not watch this kind of show, but I do remember reports that Mara Louw had a serious alcohol problem. Did the show's producers decide to keep her on regardless ?
 
I think mnet are desperate to have a non white idol. They were too scared to rig the results this time after last year's fiasco.
