Redo!
IN a shock announcement, M-Net has revealed that the results of this year‘s Idols competition may change.

Sasha-Lee Davids from Cape Town was announced as the winner on Sunday night ahead of KwaZulu Natal‘s Jason Hartman by 52,77% to 47,23%.

But post-show analysis revealed that a significant number of the SMS votes were received after the cut-off time of 6.05pm, possibly due to problems with the cellphone networks.

M-Net channel director for general entertainment Theo Erasmus said the channel was working with the service providers and the auditors to determine how many votes came in after the cut-off time, how many of these were valid (sent before the cut-off time) and which contestant the votes benefited.

“There is a 50/50 chance that the result of Idols could change,” Erasmus said.

Both contestants have been made aware of the situation and warned that the results may change.

The duo are both due to perform at The Boardwalk lake on Saturday.

Let's hope it does change. Jason deserved that win, not some spoilt little brat.

a kid from Atlantis in a family of 10 kids, the daughter of a pastor is not ......spoilt.

Considering that she just won another competition also hosted by Mnet makes you wonder who they know. After all, in the New SA it's not what you know or what you can do, it's about who you know.

Personal feeling is that Idols was cooked

"Vanaf die oomblik dat daar net tien deelnemers oor was tot voor die laaste week van Idols het Hartman elke week meer stemme gehad as Davids, behalwe op 16 en 23 Maart."

Now, how does she suddenly win when he had more votes all along???

Jason is a MUCH better singer, has a better personality and deserves to win!

I'm still waiting for the so-called evidence that the show was cooked.A lot of news24 comments claimed they pvr'ed it.One would think those "evidence" would be all over youtube.

Looks like mnet try to cook it NOW.How exactly will you prove that sms's was before the cutoff time since they we're just...late.

Another Hillary Clinton case...just can't accept defeat.

Bottom line... You once again have people in positions they know nothing about that's why Nothing runs smooth anymore!

...lol... I don't watch, and don't really care, but I read the article and the comments. What's up with the one person saying this is a racist decision etc etc?????

It's absolutely pathetic... oh well... guess we just have to live with it.

Actually, man, I would love to be that ignorant... live on my own fantasy planet where whatever I don't agree with I simply blame someone else for... nice

Hahaha. You already live on that fantasy planet. Its called the SA. But we are the ones getting blamed.

Dear Editor,

So about 200 000 votes separated Jason from Sasha in Idols SA Season 5.

I don't know about you, but that is a hell of a lot of votes - and money too (about R400 000). I certainly know what I could do with that money, but that's not the issue at hand.

The problem I have, is that how can we trust SA Idols ever again. Patricia Scholtemeyer announced that both are winners? Both? Isn't the purpose of a competition to have one winner?

Ok, so let's say this was the elections and (by some miraculous intervention) it was found that Helen Zille actually won instead of JZ. Do you really think we would want both individuals to share the presidency? HELL NO!

It's either one or the other. After all, it's not like we are comparing apples with pears - voting is made by people who want to vote and so is Idols. Let's not call both "democratic" as it's used recklessly by anyone, and in all honesty, it's an ideal, not reality!

Again, I'll make the comparison between SA and the US (and don't get me wrong, we should not want to be like them, but they do serve as an excellent benchmark) and the votes that their contestants get [and note, it's not even the finale] is 10 times more than we generate. The funny thing is - they managed just fine! Why can't we?

So who's going to be held accountable? Shall we "C for yourself", just say Yebo Gogo, or look at "Everywhere you go". Or better yet, is this "Where the magic lives"?

One thing I'm pretty sure of is that the "brand value"of Idols as a reputable competition will hit ground zero (if it hasn't already) and no matter how you try and cover it up - it will always linger at the back of people's minds.

The damage has been done and it is irreversible. Yes, come hell or high water, this show will continue next year or whenever, as it is viable and making lots of money. I'm just not so sure that I'll be voting again... I have a sneaky feeling I'm not the only one.

PS: anyone remember the SA version of Apprentice? Both finalists were declared as winners - I haven't seen a second season of it aired on TV!!
