Honestly, stabillity from firefox is atrocious. It lags my computer and jams on virtually any JS intensive (things like gmail cause it a lot of trouble).
It's better than IE, no doubt. But it's not at the same level as Opera or chrome.

Sadly, it can't happen, yet. Too many big corporates use ONLY IE6. I'm in such a company...
We can't switch to other browsers, because we have too many web based applications that break in anything other than IE6.
I don't know WTF bought a system like that in the first place...
Strange. I've never had a problem with GMail, Google Docs or any other JS intensive site.

I will second that, also no issues with Gmail or JS-intensive sites.
Then again, maybe NoScript also helps there.

I am also counting the days when I click on a link in an e-mail and it doesn't automatically open IE
- or does someone out there know of a way to eradicate this? 
I have tried to remove it using the "Add/Remove Windows Component" in the Control Panel but maybe I am missing something?

Perhaps if you set your other browser as the default.

You can switch browsers, just install firefox and the IEtab add-on. Set IEtab to open your web-based apps in IEtab and it will embed an IE window inside your firefox tab. And it uses the version of IE that is installed, so would use your IE6.

Yes, I use that. But it seems our IT department can't be bothered.
All Firefox sites are blocked here at work. I have to download it at home and bring it with a USB stick when I want to install/update it.
IE6 is the only approved browser. All others (including 7 and 8) are banned.

It's about time IE finally got knocked in the stats.
The only thing I ever use IE for is the first time I install a windows machine and need to browse somewhere, so I got to mozilla's site and get Firefox

This is why the EU wants Micro$oft to include many rival browsers on the Windows install disc. And Micro$oft responded by interpreting the EU their own way, and removing their browser instead of allowing the competition to wipe out IE faster.

i heard about this, but I'm confused: How will someone get (download) another browser to their PC (in the EU), if they don't have a browser to get onto the Internet?

Back in the days of Win95/98 browsers were distributed on an install CD that you get from your ISP when you signed up for an internet subscription, or on magazine cover discs (I remember seeing a disc that came on a You magazine with Netscape, IE and the Quake II demo) if there wasn't a problem with this approach back then, why should it be a problem now?
