IE8's final step

Whoop de doo

I am completely underwhelmed.

I'm still using Firefox on Windows XP and Windows 7 :D

Agree with that.

I think the part about the EU legal action case is BS. How can any manufacturer be forced to sell their product with another manufactures accessories. I dont care if its cars, or software, its a bad idea

I think the point is that they not bundle internet explorer, as opposed to bundling competitor products.

Why should they bundle competitor products? Its the same as bundling a Linux/OSX version with IE.

We all want things that work out the box, but this is going to put us backwards in terms of an all in one solution.

ok..I'm not an MS fan..but I do believe they should have the right to to distribute their browser with their OS..yes I know the argument against this..but still think that its their product their selling, and I'll be rather dissapointed if I buy an OS without an Internet browser...

Very good point.

Prime example is the Windows 'N' brand, in which the EU forced Microsoft to distribute a version of Windows with no built in Media Player. Naturally the product has seen underwhelming sales since most modern OS's these days come with some form of built in media playing experience by default, and in turn most people expect their OS to have that kind of functionality work out the box.

So basically you have a legal entity force MS into spending money and resources on marketing, branding, and development to bring out a product no-one wants in the first place. Way to go re. interference in the private sector.

Hell, Apple bundles Quicktime into MacOS, you don't see the EU going after them.

Installed the RC version and it Rocks!!! Way better than the Beta version.

I like how they punish Microsoft... but what about OIL Companies buying patents that will put them out of business?

And another thing...

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy Windows. Why do they need legal action against ms?

I hope they dont implement a new *Microsoft web standard* for us developers out there. Otherwise, its just another Headache Version 8 for us. Think of the includes for your javascript and css file..... grrrrrrr!

Yup, iTunes as well.
Also get the iLife suite, Front row and the Safari browser, so u get pretty much everything u need a computer for.

MS are getting a bad deal there.

same argument probably isnt valid for the mac's due to the fact that Mac ships the hardware with the software (or other way around) making it more of an "appliance"? otherwise if they do the same to Mac then they will also need take on cellphones for putting on browsers..........

but you don't NEED to run Windows... you can get Linux for free. Why force MS?

Edit: Not pointed at you directly Mole :)

but mac have change their hardware, making it possible for the end user to install windows or linux on it.... so that should open the debut again!

true..so this whole debate is rather dumb really, my only question is that if they take on MS, where do they end..but there is another point in the argument, and that is the fact that it is quite imposible to really uninstall IE..yes you can go addremoveprograms/windows****/IE/Uninstall..but in truth its not quite uninstalled..and if you delete the IE DLL's then well..congrats you fckd up you installation successfully due to the fact that IE is fully integrated for example think explorer.exe...so guess thats where the difference comes in, the fact that its integrated to the point of dependancy. But still think they cant force MS to remove it, and if people dont like the fact that IE is included then they should stop bitching and either go Mac or Linux..screw the EU for being pansies
