IEC to fix website

Thank goodness and not a moment to soon.

3 mil. Wow ... I'm sure theres hundreds of companies that would do it for under R100k (properly that is)

I'm sure they say R3mil but it's actually only a few grand, somebody's putting the rest in his/her own pocket :p

but are they BEE complient and ANC ARSE creeping enabled?

We just want the site to work 100% according to Internet standards.

It will probably appear broken to IE users.

jip... thats what heppens when u get family / friends the contract to create a hafassed site to start wif, and then charge more to feex it properly.
chrismas is around the corner, I guess they gotta start getting munny together :)

wow... wonder who is going to foot this bill; and here my rates doesn't even come close too those amounts :(

Hey, let's do it for 2 mil. 1mil for the BEE partner. 100K for the guys doing the work and 900k for the rest of us.

Actually I'm sure there will probably be some infrastructure costs (load balanced servers, hosting, software, etc.)

Yep, is this case it appears they're friends/family with accenture.

The No Firefox! No Vote! campaign, founded by well-known open source advocate Karl Fischer, is urging Internet users to email or fax Maphanga to demand that the organisation make its website available to all users.

I am a huge open-source fan, but reckon my right to vote is a leetle more important than being able to access the IEC's website in the browser of my choice.

No Firefox! No Vote!

Well, lets get da publicly available details of the tender and the costing process.
Where the heck do you start?
Amazing how the original "creators" are not accountable for the stuff-up.

All hail the great 'Quin and the Firey 'Fox.

This is going to be an expensive lesson to government departments to lock users out because of their choice of software

The R3M for the IEC website reminds me of this:

Three contractors - one from Soweto , another from Pretoria ,
and the third from Benoni - are bidding to fix a broken fence at
the Union Buildings in Pretoria .

They go with a Union Buildings official to examine the fence.

The Pretoria contractor takes out a tape measure, does some
Measuring, and then works some figures with a pencil.
'Well,' he says, 'I figure the job will run about R900.
R400 for materials, R400 for my crew, and R100 profit for me.'

The Benoni contractor also does some measuring and figuring,
then says, 'I can do this job for R700: R300 for materials,
R300 for my crew, and R100 profit for me.'

The Soweto contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans
over to the Union Buildings brother and whispers, 'R2,700.'

The official, incredulous, says, 'You didn't even measure like
the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?'

The Soweto contractor whispers back, 'R1000 for me, R1000 for
you, and we hire the guy from Benoni to fix the fence.'

'Done!' replies the government official.

And that, folks, is how it all works in S.A. these days!
