IEC's voting registration turns chaotic

South Africans who want to vote in the country's upcoming local elections have struggled to access the IEC's elections registration website or get registered at voting stations since Saturday morning.

Early in the morning, attempting to open registration.elections.org.za website presented users with a message stating, "This site can't be reached".

At 9:22, the IEC said it was aware of an issue relating to the mapping functionality on the website.

Do the people in shacks (ANC base) also have to register online?

Feels a bit skewed to mess with the competition, how did people register before the internet, a genuine question.

Yeah, the site is a joke. I was excited to hear when you could register to vote online when the article came out about a month or 2 ago. I tried for over 2 weeks to register, but the process never got passed the OTP stage. The OTP sms would just never arrive. I even logged a support ticket and just got the generic response of: "oh, the system is strained and sms are delayed."

Couple of months later, still no sms.

So moral of the story... I'm shocked :cautious:

I can make a better website than this in a day.

Tenders all around again it seems

I will go as far as to say, the creator of this website probably stores a copy of all the captured info to sell later on.

Looks like a typical Indian-built site.

But this is what they want. Block the voters from registering, but open for the ANC that messed up to register again. Would work smoothly for them but not the voters.

I have lost respect for the IEC. They are no longer free and fair.

All along I thought we have physical registration and online, is it not so?

Guess I'm lucky. Did mine last night, got SMS soon after. No fuss at all.

I use Edge browser though, dropped Chrome long ago. Not sure if that made any diff.

You don't HAVE to register online, it's just more convenient (when it works).
