I'm dead slow!

Hi all,

This is the antenna Neotel "out sourced" technicians will be installing tomorrow for me.

They came here earlier to do it, but left because they didn't bring a small enough bracket.

Anyways, they coming around tomorrow (18th June 2009) to finish the job.

It's quite 'big' (It's half my size and I'm 1.81m ±)

PS: Yes, I like my duvet ;) now p1ss off! :) haha.

Hey Gdiza

Pity that you showed us all your duvet. Now we really can't take you seriously;)

By the way you need to realise that Monk3ylov3r, ADS and KDS are all Neotell "plants" on this site so don't take their criticism seriously. Their comments are obviously biased.

LOL! I've had it for like... ever, GF likes it so... yeah :)

Not without;

1. A fight
2. Making Neotel work to keep it, so when I do leave and I continue to bad mouth them publically for the rest of my life - at least I have a leg to stand on WHY I did it.
3. Helping as many people get the service Neotel promises people.

I wish I worked for Neotel - I'd be a LEGEND-wait for it-ARY oke on these forums ;) (Because everyone's Neotel setup would work!)

A couple of weeks ago, a Neotel Technician came by with an internal antenna that you stick to a window. That looked much better than this one and I was able to get 4bar full signal to the tower, RSSI was around 70 - pity though as he admitted that the tower was congested so even with this quality and clarity of signal it did not improve anything.

This is pretty much the same thing I was told - but told not to mention publically.

Neotel didn't expect the response they are getting from South Africa - well, they did, just not as much as it is happening now and then with the TATA buy out, all things have shot to hell - long story short, Neotel are struggling.

Which is why I keep fighting to stay with them, because once they iron out all the 'bugs' - things should improve and then I'll be happy to have supported these monkeys - good times and bad ;)

I think I'm loyal like that... But R1000± is really alot of money for me (not like R600 with Telkom which I could still bare) so I've had enough of spending money for 'nothing' (which is basicaly what my Neotel is giving me - I can't stream from YouTube, I can't download anything... it's pointless)

I'm in Johannesburg (Roodepoort), and on my Prime Unlimited I've NEVER had speeds like 200KB/s?
My line was screwed up, after complaining for a while, its now slightly less screwed up.
I average 20-30KB/s, topping out at the occasional 50KB/s.
I wish they'd sort their crap out. (BTW, I've also SUDDENLY got no coverage according to their coverage map)

Okay, the people who are doing my 'setup of antenna' for Neotel are called "Kum Tech" (www.kumtech.co.za)

CO.ZA Information

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I'm assuming that they get instructions from Neotel to come out to you.

However, their contact details are as follows;

(021) 7152297
(021) 7152360
(021) 7152361

I am dealing with "Reon" (Pronounced Riaan)

Hi Freemilo

I'm using the same antenna and I'm impressed with the result...

I'm just wondering if your speed problems have anything to do with the pattern on your duvet? :D

Cheers

Non-Stop

It's basically down to tower congestion like we said.

My problem has nothing to do with congestion. If i connect my default antenna my line speed makes a noticable improvement but my RSSI goes back to the normal 75-80 region. e.g antenna 180kbps default 360kbps.

If anyone can please explain this.

Maybe it has to do with signal which apparently was my problem.

My antenna was only picking up 1 tower, when it should've been picking up more than one (apparently)
With my new antenna installed - apparently my speeds are blitz again, but the antenna is positioned nicely between GARDENS CENTRE & MEDIA 24's building which apparently are 2 spots where Neotel have base stations in CPT Central.

Okay guys,

Speedtest @ 5:15pm on the 18th June 2009.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 816 kbps (102 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 83 kbps (10.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

According to BW Meter Pro, my connection peaked at 150KB/s at some point.

Pictures of the completed job:

Another speedtest because I'm actually happy (5:19pm):

Last Result:
Download Speed: 946 kbps (118.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 94 kbps (11.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

:D

So how did it come about that you got them to install a free antenna bru? I want the same process to happen this side.

I moaned did alot of moaning, I don't call and just accept what those stupid techies say to me on the phone, I know my stuff - and I demand to speak to people.

*EDIT*
I never knew this, but now, on my device, it has 4 bars, not 3 anymore... most I ever saw was 3 bars, I now have 4 bars! HECTIC! :D

ok, bars don't tell us anything. What is your RSSI?

Like i said earlier my slow speeds is pissing me off cause it doesn't make sense. My RSSI is 47. That's freakin low so i can't understand my slow transfer speeds.

I'm having exact same issues with my atenna from Poynting. The Yagi one. I only ever pick up 1 tower now, where as I use to pick up 2 which is where I use to get like 1.2mbps. Now only see one. RSSI is at constant 53.

If I put my Neotel Antenna back on, my speeds sometimes fly up. With the antenna now I normally get like 400kbps.

Sigh.

RSSI doesn't make a difference either. When I point to PN 320 my RSSI is 75 and I have 4 bars but my download speed is 128k. PN 304 gives me an RSSI of 93, 2 bars and 264k.
