I'm struggling... help...

You need to either slipstream the SATA drivers to form part of the Windows XP install disc, or have a floppy () disk ready with the SATA drivers on it and do the whole F6 thing :)

Or alternatively you could try installing Windows Vista which probably supports them natively, but I didn't say that :p

I have found it to be easier to install Windows XP with an IDE CD/DVD drive and adding the SATA DVD drive later, after installation.

I have an amilo li 1705 with a similar problem (trying to install xp instead of vista)

but I have found a way around it

boot xp with SATA

when blue screen appears keep pressing F5 constantly

eventually a menu will appear saying

standard pc with I386
select this option

should solve your problem at least with SATA

but be careful : no free lunch:D

maybe you dont have win XP drivers for your board:(
I know my amilo dosent.

thats why it came with a cellphone contract for free

On some notebooks, you receive a blue screen even during the installation process. This is a SATA issue, so while I have never heard of this, it sounds like a good tip!

I've had the SATA HDD + IDE DVD problem too.

Reset bios to defaults, change controller in bios to SATA if it has that and remove all other IDE drives from the PC (except the dvd obviously). Worked on second try. Not too sure what exactly fixed it, but it should be one of the above.

Beanie's suggestion sounds like a better bet though.

Enable IDE which will set the SATA to emulate an IDE connection.
On what kind of a mobo does it emulate the one selected?

very sorry maybe I dident understand well enough

but my idea is such:

install your IDE cd rom drive
then install your SATA HDD

boot into XP
at the stage that it asks you to press f6 for third party SCSI or RAID drivers

then you press F5
and select standard P.C. with I386

that will take care of the SATA problem

if Im wrong, maybe explain your situation again
as Im finding it hard to understand what you have, and dont have

My mobo has an option to enable SATA as SATA or IDE.

Nah, errors, blue screens, more complications than I care to worry about etc... I gave up!

Someone close this thread, I chucked the Fscking motherboards in the bin!

Time for plan B!

whats plan b,and could i have the scraps please..

Plan B is as follows:

Tomorrow, I'm going to Cafe JAVA in Claremont and I'm buying the following:

AMD 4200+ (2.2GHz) Dual Core CPU
2x 1GB DDR2 800 Chips
ABIT A-N68SV Motheboard

All for R1876 incl.

Then I will put that together in the case I bought along with the 160GB Seagate SATA2 hard drive and Lite-on (20x) DVD Writer.
