Do you use antivirus/anti-spyware, etc. on your Mac?
If so which one is best to get?
Thanks

I used to run one under parallels but now just simply reset the image back to a safe state after each boot.

On OsX - no - I'm not going to eat into the system resources just because windows users cant/wont protect or maintain their systems.

Of course all this could change the day a mac virus is actually found in the wild.

Had a Mac for nearly a year and never came across this thing called the "virus" for OSX.

lol. there are actually 8 viruses for Mac. All are accounted for and patched by apple themselves...

As i have pointed out in other threads here, its irresponsible to not run anti virus. Just because your mac is not likely to get infected, it can still pass the virus on to other machines through email/on the network. Be a good person and do it.

Other machines, namely Windoze machines should run their own AV software.

Could you perhaps suggest some AV options for Mac?

Here's your antivirus:

Step 1: DONT FORWARD EMAIL WITH ATTACHMENTS TO WINDOWS USERS.
Step 2: The end.

:)

sure, oh but by that mentality, also dont connect your machine to any windows network then.....oh wait....no.....

and yes windows users should have their own AV software, but why be spiteful and not put it on yours if you can help out? And its only a matter of time before a nasty virus gets unleashed on mac, try get prepared.

AS for antivirus, give clam a try?

There is no need for antivirus so I see no need to install it on my Mac, this is something that should be abnormal. Not normal the way windows users believe it to be.

The only way to infect a windows user with a virus is for you to forward on an infected file - if either the person who forwarded it to you or the person you subsequently forwarded the file on to had antivirus software there wouldnt be a threat.

So as long as ur good its ok? I actually prefer to know that things i am sending/copying are clean, but hey...

I already know things I'm sending are.

Common sense is much better than any antivirus software and rarely needs updating. ;)

So are Windows users going to pay me for the wasted time and bandwith I used in updating the AV?
Are they going to pay for the AV?

Neither.

Windows users need to have their own AV running and keep it updated.
I have an AV product running on Windows machines. I use McAfee, Kaspersky and BitDefender. I also use a HIPS and firewall on all machines.
My ISP scans incoming and outgoing emails too.

There is no way in heck, I am going to install an AV for others' benefit,
unless viruses come out for the Mac.

Having worked at a iStore doing conversions for switcher's I can tell you that Mac's do get infected. What happens is that if the drive is formatted FAT32 it's "impossible" to delete infected directory's. Solution "sudo rm /Folder/ *.*"
