Imagine Uncapped Feedback

Peter, just a quick question... My international access seems to be restored, but I cant access Gmail... is this a Google problem? Is that even possible? lol

I've posted a lot here and in spite of generally crappy speeds and the cable break, I have managed 27GB without trying too hard - mainly been pulling stuff from BBC, last night I listened to their election debate. And, yes, at times it ihas been really frustrating, but, on the whole the Internet has been useable enough. Does it need to improve? Yes, the ISP's should never throttle/shape/choke or otherwise minimise a 384Kb line, it's slow enough already.

I gave notice to Imagine during the month, but, based on Peter's efforts and his predicted improvements, I re-signed for May. A few month's of below par service is worth paying if I can hope for something much better in the future. So Peter, you will have to put my money where your mouth is! :)

BTW One very major point that makes me extremely reluctant to go to Mweb is their requirement that I sign a debit order. I do not like debit orders, they are far too easily abused and far too difficult to cancel should the recipient decide to make it so. With Imagine I can set up a payment schedule with my bank and then not worry about it until my callendar reminds me that it's time to reschedule. It all remains under my control and I like that.

I sukkel to access Gmail when downloading at max. Try stopping your downloads.

@bekdik.... debit order? I just pay via eft... no debit order options with my bank account, you see.

I also am willing to sukkel a little bit, within acceptable limits, in order to wait and hope for a working service (sooner the better :P )

Morning guys!
Sorry, I missed the convo's... my key broke off in my lock this morning. Not funny... standing outside for 2 hours in your pyjamas is quite a sobering experience after a big night of catch ups (beer) with friends.

EFT - most people hate it becuase of the poor service levels throughout the payment chain of events. If you don't get payment figures on time from the bank then you don't know who has paid or not. Also, the admin time of having to 'tick off' hundreds of customers really makes the system hard work in a short time frame. On a product the comapny has to pay R460 up front on, that makes you R30-40 profit you then have to have at least 10 customer's to cover the one person who decided he didn't want to pay... and that doesn't include the admin time & cost... so that's why people hate it. It lays your business open to abuse and the ofending bank just sits there with dead eyes not giving a **** that they just did you over... good bank service is another fight for anotehr day ;)

Don't even get me started on the credit card margins in this country. Taking between 3-5% for doing absolutely nothing and then not allowing you to have a 'credit card' excess charge is amazing. If you're business is based on a 5-10% mark up model you just can't afford to do it when you have a big fat leech sucking you dry for no reason at all.

Also, thanks for the loyalty guys, I have to say that it's amazing appreciated. Trust me when I say that we're working very hard to make sure we can bring you the goods and the options that you need from our business.

One thing that comes to mind with all you ADSL guys that I've neevr asked... does anyone use their phone line?? We're quite a large VoIP / Cheap GSM / LCR / blah blah business and we have the intention of rolling this out to the customer. Although, with all the ADSL changes happening we haven't started the research yet. So any feedback and help would be awesome.

GSM calls here are crazy high but we know that most people use their cell phones to make a call.
- Would you use your landline if the calls were considerably cheaper?
- Would you want a local 01 02 03 04 number or would a 087xx be ok?
- How much do you all spend on calls a month?
- How much of that is making calls at home?

I'm sure there's a lot more I could ask and I'm being a bit cheeky picking your brains but it does seem that everyone have been spending much more than they should on everything. Not just ADSL.

Cheers,

P.

hahahaha Peter, sounds like a good night man ;)

Ummm true to my geek form, most of my communication is carried out through IMs of some sort or email... Phone calls are 99% emergencies and then they're from my cell phone. Personally I have no use for a regular phone line at all. Thats me!

Yes. Closer 4 = 384, Closer 5 = 4Mb.

That's the one, I always get mixed up with DO & Closer which is why I didn't say Closer :).

I've got Closer 4. To me the big advantage is that it fixes my phone spend as I don't exceed what it covers, apart from the fandambly making the odd cell call or the wife yacking to her sister for longer than an hour at time. I must say that I never understood the latter, but these two will talk about the same thing for hours!

Now this wasn't what I expected!

One machine running DAP downloader at 20KB, so I pppoe'd using another IS ISP 1GB capped account and ran speed test and got:

IS ADSL Local Speed Test to Internet Solutions Rosebank Data Centre
Please wait testing speed now...

Start Time: 16:16:55
End time: 16:17:16
IP Address: 196.210.242.xxx
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 20.994968175888 seconds
Download Speed: 19 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 152 kbits/s

I then dropped the pppoe and got:

IS ADSL Local Speed Test to Internet Solutions Rosebank Data Centre
Please wait testing speed now...

Start Time: 16:17:46
End time: 16:18:54
IP Address: 196.210.204.xxx
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 68.33416390419 seconds
Download Speed: 6 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 48 kbits/s

Pausing the download and using Imagine uncapped (the 48kb one above gives:

IS ADSL Local Speed Test to Internet Solutions Rosebank Data Centre
Please wait testing speed now...

Start Time: 16:24:19
End time: 16:24:39

Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 19.892425060272 seconds
Download Speed: 20 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 160 kbits/s

Now ain't that interesting?

Hey Necuno,
Yeah, we run a helpdesk service 24 hours a day from 6am Monday to 6am Saturday. Covers all our business customers very well but now that we're entering the ADSL arena I think we will need to run a full 24/7 service.

I have noticed that MWeb close at 10pm but 7 days a week, so there are other ways of doing it but think it would be all or nothing for us. Although, I'd love to see a larger ADSL customer base before I push this through the Board... which relies on the IS Basic Uncapped product working well. Also, with a potential MWeb deal around the corner I am hoping that we'll be able to offer almost every ADSL/connectivity product on the market.

Therefore, you choose and stay with Imagine no matter what product and add-on services you want to benefit from. We just make sure you get the best customer service in the market...
