Immigrating to the UK

Drove to Wales on the weekend - that 20mph limit takes some getting used to! Beautiful country side though.
I've started using Waze wherever I drive. Very handy for the speed limits and cameras.
Ja. Was in Pembrokeshire in the south west of Wales for a week last year. Lovely country roads, beautiful beaches, and the sun was out. Would have struggled with the 20mph though.

The most dangerous thing I've seen here are those electric scooters on the pavements going 20mph. Nearly got taken out a few times when walking around, my 5 year old too. They need to get rid of those

This citizenship by double descent is getting tricky. If I understand it correctly the following would be true...
If your mother's father was born in England you can apply directly for a British passport, but if your father's father was British you can't. Am I understanding that correctly?
Also, only if you were born outside the commonwealth. So if you were born in SA, that's between 1962 and 1994 (i think it was)

Driving in this country is mostly stress free and peaceful. Most drivers follow the rules. The roads are well lit for the most part and decent infrastructure.

Drove from Hastings to Chessington world of adventure theme park, today. The rental had active cruise control and picked up all the different speed limits. So I let it do its things. Slowing down and speeding up. What a pleasure.

Can’t wait to move here next year.
Hope you are out taking kiddo trick-or-treating.

Unfortunately too young for that at 17 months. But it’s one of the many things we are looking forward to doing here with him.

Kids have so much choice and things to do here that are safe. Unlike SA.

I'm starting a UK job next month, so good news to be earning pounds

Is there anything I need to worry about regarding Taxes on the UK salary on SA and UK side?

Or does it just all sort itself out?

You have your NI number, right?
As long as you have that, your UK tax should be good.
If you're still tax resident in SA it's a bit more complex as I suspect you'll need to declare your foreign income there.

Yes exactly.

If your father's father was British, he had the opportunity to register you as British if you were born between 1983 and 1987. If he didn't do it, tough luck.

But if your father's mother was British, he never would have had the chance to register you as British if you were born between 1983 and 1987 because he would not have been British himself. He would have been British if it was his father that was born in the UK, but because it was his mother, he was not British.

This is what this new law rectifies - if you should have had a chance to register as British, you now have the chance. If you or your father had the opportunity all those years ago and didn't take it, the British government is not willing to give you another chance.

Hopefully the weather holds out and wind stays away for bonfire night.
