HP = credit. No credit score, good luck.
See if your work participates in the EV salary sacrifice scheme.
Otherwise, probably buy an old one cash. You'll be able to insure it no problem. You might pay a bit though.
 
You can just buy a car but it needs to be insured before you drive it. You’ll do the change of ownership on the gov.uk site, previous owner will essentially transfer it off of their name onto yours(If buying from old folk they may do this via post office by mailing the logbook change) DVLA will mail you the logbook. You cannot get away with driving a car uninsured or without a valid MOT.

Without credit history buying on HP is nopt going to happen.

Best would be to buy a car cash. They will arrange a instant 2-3 day insurance so you can drive your car home. You then arrange your own insurance - you are not allowed to drive without insurance or MOT.
ANPR will catch you, will get fined, points deducted and maybe banned from driving.

And this exchanging drivers license reads like you must post your actual license in the mail - is that right or must it just be a copy?

Sounds a bit scary just putting that into the mail (SAPO and all)

Yes you send it in the mail. Original.
You won't get it back, but not because it's lost or stolen. They destroy it and send it back to SA.

That's something else you'll need to get used to - reliable safe post. Credit cards, passports, drivers licenses, the works... all done through the post.

Oh and you actually don't need to carry ID or drivers licenses around with you, unless you need to prove your ID or age for something specific.

Post your license and residence permit. Residence permit will come back but your license will not.
Don’t even sweat it, take a photo of them just incase you need them for anything.

Plenty of car dealers that specialise in cheaper cars, have a look on Autotrader (there's a website and an app), you can normally pick up a decent car with long or full MOT for £2500-£3500. You don't need ID to buy a car here.

The tip here is more organised than SAPO. Even during industrial action your stuff will not go missing or suffer major delays. I’ve had many “holy crap we’ve been poorly conditioned” moments.

hahaha. Post just works here. You get your passport send to you in the mail as well and it's generally in under 48 hours.

I bought a item yesterday on eBay and was delivered today

I've got small business here selling hobby stuff. Must have posted off 1000 items in the last year. Only one was last and RM reimbursed me. Lots of people moan about postage but it just works.

Love the Amazon Prime as well - next day delivery as well.
 
Oh. Get a letter from your car insurer confirming your no claim bonus if applicable.
Insurers here will accept it.

Remember kakking myself when I sent my SA licence in with my BRP. Around a week later I got my UK licence and my BRP back and was like
