Immigrating to the UK

Prime hasn't used the Royal Mail up here, it used to be DPD and it's now all done by Amazon Logistics, you see their vans on virtually every street.
Yeah, I just get a mix of DPD and Amazon themselves. Haven't had Royal Mail once I can recall.

Partial hijack here - but as a dual citizen (UK) born and bred in SA - is it possible to build up a credit rating from this side of the pond (with Loqbox or some such)?

I've got a Monzo and Wise bank acc.

Monzo reports to the credit agencies so try and keep some activity in that account.

As long as all the accounts have the same UK address on them the credit agencies should accept updates from them
Loqbox works well for initial building but you need to be able to make the monthly payments. I can't remember if they do direct debit or if you need a debit card.

I'm pretty sure Wise doesn't report to the agencies (or didn't).

No Idea if Loqbox actually works, but read the T&C's prior to signing up so you understand what you are getting yourself into

Who is everyone using these days to send money from SA to the UK?
I just used an fnb channel islands current account and did transfers into it. Maybe not the most cost effective but definitely the least PT

I have an Investec account. I guess I can just open a UK account with them and do it that way. I’ll see what their fees are. But I think card usage in UK has no fees if it’s from their UK account.

I use Standard Bank Shyft app after discovery messed me around with their SWIFT problems

Often the payment is in within 1-2 hours

Using something like Shyft is cheaper and pretty straightforward. That's how I transferred my money to the EU. Investec (and the rest I guess) were just too expensive.

I'm not good a tax stuff so read this with that in mind, but there were articles about this and ticking the box on your tax return only tells them that you say you are a non-resident and does not mean "become a non tax resident". I believe at some point they disabled that tick box because of the confusion.

There is a separate process to follow to cease tax residency.

But if this works for you I stand corrected :)
