Immigrating to the UK

Sky has issued me with a 24% price increase letter for my broadband.

I called them and I can get out of my 18 month contract with no penalties.

So now that leaves the question do I: 1. grab another deal via Uswitch and get some free sign on vouchers, or 2: just get a 5G router and buy a month to month sim and use that for internet?
Update to the above;

1. Cancelled Sky - no penalty.
2. Searched for a new deal on Uswitch.
3. Be careful to study T&C's - in the end I went with BT as the specific deal I can also cancel mid contract (possibly in the future) with no penalty, if/when they decide to increase prices mid contract.
4. Redeem £110 voucher.
5. Rinse repeat if required.

EDIT: I tried the 5g mobile internet route too, but I only have 4g at home. In bigger cities I get well over 100mb/s on my Smarty uncapped sim, but its not viable in my area.

I am most certainly a peasant internet user. Give me WIFI that can stream Youtube/Netflix without buffering and I'm all set.
I am looking forward to <50ms pings to EU servers in my games.

Problem is they also swop items every few weeks, and I cant help myself going treasure hunting.

No man, you sound like a mate of mine, he says the same bloody thing :ROFL: Hey, to each their own. If you got the stamina for Aldi, commendable!

Don't forget LIDL also has a middle aisle.

I wonder if @Tman* roams that one as well? :p
Norra F. I am an ALDI loyalist!

Pick of the day:

https://groceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/p-specially-selected-gammon-flavour-crisps-150g/4088600434469 - THICK and crunchy. I wish my local ALDI will bring back the beef & horseradish flavour tho.

We prefer the butter from LIDL so make trips for that, though prefer most other stuff from ALDI, their posh yoghurts are better for example.

Perhaps the wrong thread. Is there a similar thread for Saffas living in AUS? (couldn't find anything via the search function)

@Tman*

Looking into our options to exit this (beautiful) failing state.

We're trying to get an idea of how much it might cost to make the move and hoping to get some estimates from people here who've done this.

- initial setup in the UK
-shipping some limited stuff over
-visas/other travel administration
-flights
-anything else I'm forgetting?

Thanks!

Which visa(s)?
What would be your path into the UK?

- initial setup in the UK. How long is a piece of string? If you are looking for a good starting point, make sure you have some form of employment earning GBP, prior to making the move. Spending ZAR in the UK is depressing.
-shipping some limited stuff over - check out https://www.sevenseasworldwide.com/ for an instant quote if you are planning to send over a "move cube". shipping a 20ft/40ft container will be considerably more expensive.
-visas/other travel administration - see question in the post above
-flights - See British air, Emirates etc for a quick estimate.
-anything else I'm forgetting? - Make sure your affairs in SA are in order. ie - obtain original copies of all relevant unabridged certificates prior to leaving. Ensure your passport and driving licence is valid + longer. Renew all bank cards prior to departure.
