Immigrating to the UK

Tickets booked for another trip to the UK; flying out in October - all so my wife doesn't get a 5 year ban from the great RSA.

1. Travel insurance is not a requirement for a tourist visa
2. Great location; especially if you want easy access to the rest of London and I've stayed at the Premier-In in Bank, in London - which was great.

Great thanks. Then in terms of Oyster card etc. is it possible to get a weekly pass? The info on the official site is confusing, but maybe I'm just not understanding.

Don't use the Oyster card.
If you with a bank that can do a VCC then activate that on Google Pay or Apple Pay and pay your TFL stuff with that. The contactless day limit is lower than the Oyster card (Basically you pay more for paying ahead - I do not understand the logic either).

5 year ban from SA?

Wife's spouse visa expired in July. We applied for a renewal in May. DHA has a backlog of 70K visa applications - so it looks like we might get the visa next year in Q1 if lucky.

So, either she stays in SA until visa is issued and can't leave - or get banned if you do. Or we leave in October when her visitor visa expires (Which she got on entry in SA in July when we got back from our UK trip)

So, we going to fly out again in October, so she can get another 90 days when we return in November. We will then apply for a visitor visa extension, which give her until until May - hopefully by then, her spousal visa has been issued.

So yeah, bit of a mess - but we don't want her being stuck in SA nor do we want her being banned - as we plan on returning often to see friends and visit.

Haha ok thanks, do you know what the daily limits are?

Just be pickpocket weary in Kings Cross, otherwise it's just mad busy and chaos more than sketch, lol

a weekly travelcard may be cheaper than paying as you go, depending how much you travel...?

This video popped up in my feed the other day. He goes into quite a bit of detail on differences in cost of living between Cape Town and London.

That's what worries me. We will be using the station extensively, so just wondering whether it's better to stay somewhere a bit quieter...

It depends on where you travel and when you travel.
Since you are on holiday I suggest not hopping on during the peak times:
Peak fares - Monday to Friday (not on public holidays) between 06:30 and 09:30, and between 16:00 and 19:00
If you travel outside of those times you will be billed at off peak times.

Your daily limit within Zones 1-4 is £11.70 for the day.

I'm the eek, too much crowd type so my choice would be slightly less chaotic but it depends on your personal tolerance. It's lovely and central and all that which is a huge plus but yeah, the people are 24/7

Is there anywhere else you specifically recommend? As well as 'reasonable' hotels if possible.

Have only been in Kings Cross and Covent Garden and the latter was more enjoyable personally. Sorry I can't give more input, I don't stray from up North often enough to be a help :giggle:
