To be fair; the Tories said they want to cut immigration then let everyone in from Ukraine. So that’s partially why figures are sky high.

These new rules have definitely slowed it down.

It will get tougher to get into uk in the coming years which is why we are doing this now.

Anyone saying they want 0% immigration doesn’t understand what that would do the the economy. Or they do and just using it as an election campaign and talking kak.
 
Just got all our paperwork together for our second leg of visas. We’re in for a little under £12K including agent fees. Then another £2.8k each in 2.5 years when we apply for ILR.
All this while building up a deposit for a house.

Yeah it's kak expensive. But I think it's worth it. At least its just me that needs ILR in the end

Company isn't paying for it. Which is actually a good thing; means I am not locked in to them for years on end.

Plan is, after spending 6 months in the UK - apply for a family visa and switch to that. Then I am no longer tied to employer. Will use my income to meet financial requirement, too. Should get a refund on IHS fees for SWV, well 2.5 years worth - which will then be used for family visa. Should be a straight forward process.

It's a slightly more expensive way to do this; but finding a job for my wife whilst in SA is tough - employers want to chat to her on the phone and in person - as soon as they know she's not in the country they go silent. So hence why we went with SWV instead for now.

Anyway, biometrics appointment is tomorrow - I know the exact place to go to - been there 5 times already for UK visitor visas. SWV takes 3 weeks - so should have a decision by end of the month. Plenty of time before we fly on the 20th of July.

The sad reality is, it will only become harder for Saffas to move to the UK in the future.

Edit, just had a look. My Ancestral visa cost was R71 000 when the ZAR/GBP was just a tad over R19 in 2022.

It happens, obviously. But the numbers are very low. The Tories made it out to be a much much bigger issue than it really is, because that's the hill Sunak decided to die on.

It's hardly the dream you imply it is. These people's lives are in pure limbo and uncertainty. They live in shitty accommodation. Cannot really work legally, do anything a normal citizen can. And they face deportation should their case not be successful - which takes years to be heard.

So no, it's not an option for people who have no claim to asylum to just get on a boat.

Skilled Worker Visa. My company is sponsoring it and provided the necessary documents etc.

I'm going to do biometrics in a couple hours.

Jirre and I just noticed the ILR application is also £2,885 per person. At least I have 4 years left to save for that :sick:

2 years for me. And we'll do citizenship at the same time - another £1100, as things stand.
 
I am glad my work pays for most of our initial fees though, the only thing coming out of our pockets is my wife's visa fee, but the work offers a interest free loan for that if we want it...

So far they've covered:

* My visa & IHS cost
* Initial set up in UK (one months pre tax salary for things like temp rent, airplane tickets etc.)
* Moving of animals, and household items from SA to UK

Saving a **** load of money come to think of it

Crazy expensive!
Now to start saving for ILR in a few years time which is another big cost.

How are you getting the IHS fee back?

I'm not fussed about paying upfront for my SWV. It's just me luckily. But it also means I can switch to family visa as soon as I have 6 months of payslips. Which is the intention. Then I am not tied to my employer - if I get a better offer somewhere else at least I am free to move.

The plan is to go all the way to ILR -> Citizenship -> British Passport. So will be expensive but worth it in the end.
