I shelled out 500 quid for a visa for my wife last year, and we need another one for feb!
In addition, all BRPs now expire on 31 December 2024.

You can apply for the visa from uk if you have a brp.

They're switching to a new replacement system for BRP. We should find out about that within the next few months apparently.

Gibraltar maybe. Or I’ll stick with a bit of surfing in Cornwall. I just compare costs with a nice continental holiday and understand why everyone here doesn’t do local holidays.

Yeah. I found out about it when my wife's new BRP (issued in Feb) had an expiry date of end december.
This confuses everyone when I show my card, they think it expires at the end of the year and I have to get them to check online to show the real expiry date

Geez I thought 180k for 2 and the dogs was bad 5 years ago (British passport though) .... never would have afforded the route you guys are having to go through!

The Mrs will be coming over on a spousal next year (once she is officially the spouse) and the cost of it is expensive, but not as bad as some of the figures you guys are throwing around. If I recall its around £4400 for the 2.5y visa and the NHS surcharge.

Yes. And similar again for the next 2.5 years. Then another 3k for ilr. That's 12k already...
The lump sum is larger for those applying via the ancestral route since the IHS fee is x5 instead of the 2.5 for SWV.
My IHS fee was £10940 for 2 adults and 2 kids just before the increase in Feb.
Then another £2548 for the visa fee.
I managed to get our applications in before the increase otherwise IHS alone would have been £18700

Thats fine. Its expensive, but not unaffordable for us on just my salary given the time we will be able to save for it. Once she starts to earn then we will bank her salary until we have all the money we need sitting in reserve and it can gather interest while we wait.
