Improving iBurst performance (MTU settings)

Okay, I found the secret of increasing your Iburst speed.

Check this...

I unplugged my antenna and put the desktop modem in the window and this is my speed now. :O
Then you either have the wrong spec antenna or it is installed incorrectly

I am pretty sure I have, as I am very careful with it and don't move or touch it a lot. Will still check, but if it was the case, then it wouldn't use the antenna anyway and I should have got those speeds anyway.

Download and run DRTCP (see attachment below) or run directly from http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe

Look at the adapter settings drop down and modify all iBurst Terminal settings to an mtu of 1392

Each time you plug your iBurst modem into a different USB port, there will be a new adapter configured. (It is useful to plug your iBurst modem into each USB port, then run DRTCP to set the mtu on each adapter configuration)

Why 1392? Previously the recommended MTU was 1352 and that was even posted on the iBurst web site. Have you changed something on the iBurst network in order to recommend 1392 now?

With default MTU settings. Only problem is the constant disconnects experienced over the last week.

The MTU settings only improve performance on web sites with large amounts of content that will use large frames. Web sites with content that only uses small frames will work without a problem independently of the MTU settings. Speedtest.net is in the latter category.

Anybody else having any problems?

Since Wednesday night I can't seem to get onto any sites. At first I thought I was out of bandwidth so yesterday @ work I checked & there was still plenty left.
Last night it sort of worked in a very limited capacity with only Google seeming to work, but cant open any other sites, not even the Google search results.

Phoned Technical support last night & they don’t know about any problems, my account also seems fine so they just reset & turned of my modem & rebootet my pc - it made no difference.

Checked this morning, now even google doesn’t work, just saying waiting for site.

Please PM me your contact details and UTID.

Of its fixed, and it was all my bad.

I was struggling with a stoopid nas device I got my router so messed up that I had to reset it back to default just to get my network going again.

With the reseting the MTU went to a default of 1492, I completely forgot about the whole MTU thing.

Anyway it all cool now & working like a charm

Yeah that MTU things is a huge pain in the arse and normally the culprit with those kind of errors

Great to hear. The lower MTU is required for similar reasons as to the use of a VPN, as part of the header is used for mobile IP.
