Improving iBurst performance (MTU settings)

Great to hear. The lower MTU is required for similar reasons as to the use of a VPN, as part of the header is used for mobile IP.
Just out of interest, why is changing the MTU necessary for iBurst, but not for MTN and Vodacom 3G?

After that other question: I didn't seen a 3G modems with LAN interface.... USB or Laptop. They looks like don't need MTU regulation.

Both Voda & MTN create a dialup type connection (ppp) when connected. That has the MTU config in it

iBurst max MRU setting?

I recently upgraded my Mikrotik RB433 from RouterOS 3.30 to 4.10.
After the upgrade I was only able to access certain websites; iburst, mybb and iol worked, google and uct did not.

I checked the router's PPPoE configuration and found the max MTU was still 1392. I noticed there is an max MRU setting which was 1480 (must be the default?). I dropped the max MRU setting down to 1392 and was able to access the google and uct websites.

What is the recommended max MRU setting for iBurst?
I can find many references to the max MTU setting, but none to the max MRU.

It is the same 1392. Most hardware has it as the same.

Hi Guys!

Im running windows 7 with a usb modem. For some reason, games on facebook keep freezing. My signal is 100%, and i can surf and download perfectly. What could be the problem?

Thanks!

iBurst MTU settings

My D-Link DIR-320 router is set to 1492 and all works. When I set it to either 1352 or 1392, the router can no longer connect to my iBurst ppoe account. Is that right? How did you guys get it working on those MTU settings?

If you don't have any performance or browsing problems then don't fiddle. Not familiar with the DIR-320 (but maybe someone else on the forum has experience?)

if you change the MTU settings, will the online latency be better or not?

I have done a ping to google, sending a packet of 1392 bytes, and I'm getting "Packets needs to be fragmented but DF set." messages back. I have lowered the packet size on each try until I stopped getting the fragmentation message. This magic number was 1336. Now I have read that you then take this number, add 28 (for IP headers) and then you get the MTU size for your connection. Does this apply to iBurst? I have my MTU on 1364 atm, and it still seems to be working fine.

Shyte connection in Gasrfontein Ext 10. Got 100% signal strength, got an Omni Antenna on the roof and I have a 2MB modem.

When I was living in Sandton was getting a Full 2mbps connection, no matter what time of day. Here, I'm lucky if I get 300kbps connection. Mostly its 100-200kbps

Tried changing the Router settings from default of 1492 to 1392 to 1352 to 1364, helps nothing, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi guys, i would like to know what is the best mtu setting for xbox. I use a desktop modem connected to a router.

Can anyone tell me which routers are capable of adjusting MTU settings on?

Is 1392 still the best MTU for iBurst? I had it on 1364 for no reason in particular. No problems, but I'd rather have it "right".

2mb modem via WAN on router.

Also changed to OpenDNS servers. Good move?
