Improving internet on your mobile phone

Playing some more, and have been able to connect to videos on the bbc news website, but cant get the videos on thetimes.co.za to play
 
Tried it on my 5800 (Symbian 5th ed) using a wifi connection. It loads quite fast but scrolling is slow. For basic web browsing, I'll stick to Opera Mini.

I did note that it's a beta version for symbian 5th
 
Oh no, not more perpetuation and promotion of proprietary technology. What ever happened to the spirit of the Internet? HTML5!

you're kidding me, right? which video codec do you want? ogg or h264? can't decide? well, neither can they.
 
one interesting issue with the "true" internet on your phone is the hover problem.
on touch phones you can't hover - only click afaik.
 
Best browser for me is Opera Mini 4.2.1 (edit its MANIFEST and easily have up to 10000 installed on your Nokia, so you can run multiple simultaneously) and BOLT (latest version). This combination, rocks!
 
i thinks the time they took was only to load the screen....opera loads the full page. this app only loads the screen but when you scroll it downloads some more.
nice for youtube but sticking to opera mini
 
i've been trying fennec out as well, it's great having weave on mobile and desktop.
it also has native flash support and plays really nicely fullscreen.

Skyfire is great but is limited to Smart Phones, for "semi-smart" fones like blackberry's I highly recommend Bolt Browser, can also stream vids, compresses web pages and everything else you have come to expect from a mobile browser?

I use Skyfire on my Omnia and Bolt on my Curve 8520, can say the browsing experience is kind enough to me on both...
 
I tried skyfire last night - its awesome. I had tried earlier versions which sucked a lot but it now works very well.

My only worry is keeping track of data usage. It obviously uses some sort of compression for vids and audio cuz it seems to be even faster on gprs/edge than it does on 3G.

Seeing as it's also an Internet app I'm sure it's on topic.:D

I loaded it on my older Nokia 6110 Navigator and it loaded fine. Sadly the Vodacom 3G performance makes it useless. I've not renewed my contract this time around, because I'm waiting to see what mobile offerings Telkom comes up with. Maybe price and performance will make Skype mobile a realistic proposition then.
