Increased Speed flactuation on 4meg line

I have a 4meg line, I was just browsing and downloading files and then I noticed this on my firefox downloads. Usually I hit a max download speed of 420KB/s, suddenly I see a speed of 813KB/s, then I tried another file and saw 2,1MB/s, it does lower down to 420-430KB/s after a few seconds.

The area is 10Mbps enabled but technician said too far from the exchange for me, but how do I explain the spikes in higher speed?

Is it possible for me to go to a higher speed?

Your router stats say that your line quality is good (possibly a fairly new line), but your attenuation is not so good.

This means if you sync at a higher speed, you could experience more speed fluctuations than you do now. I'd recommend you stay where you are.

Nothing wrong with that stats.... You will get 10Mbps easy without any problems. What ISP are you using? If its not the ISP what antivirus are you using? I had a problem once with NOD32 where it was scanning my downloads while it was downloading and cause such spikes. You could have a similar software of such sorts that is doing it.

Look at my line. 40dB attenuation and 4dB SNR but my line is fast and stable and syncing @ 13.7Mbps

I am using Telkom, anti-virus is Avast. I am going to ask Telkom to try and bump me up to 6Mbps and see how stable it is.
