Indirect portfolio scam

Just got the call now .

Asked what it was about, they have some story about me having taken out an insurance policy and how that made a trading account be opened in my name and these other people are benefiting from it with 40% return while only giving me a 7% return. Wanted to arrange a meeting with me. I declined that.

Called me now... (at least the second time)

Kind of sad that my office moved away from the office park with the FIC offices, might be interesting to see how they react if you agree to meet at the FIC offices... (the Financial services board offices would probably have been nicer though...)

The FIC and FSB will probably not scare them off. Used to get this call about a few times a year. It is a typical sales call heavily disguised by the portfolio that should be in your name, that you have been pre-approved for - vibes. They even switch to your preferred language.

Always go ahead with the meeting. Make sure you give them an extremely remote address. The calls will stop.

I got two calls in Jan about this (same guy I suspect), was speaking afrikaans, I just said I am not interested in this scam nonsense and hanged up.

010 018 3442 - Got the call today. When I asked him which companies/investments/details he had for my "indirect shares" he just started spitting out "you know all the big names, liberty etc"... told him tsek.

Got the same call again from these people pretending to be some company called FSI +27870850854 working for the JSE., indirect investment blah blah blah. Couple of years ago I sent them to a remote address in far south of Gauteng, they are driving that way again today for our “meeting”. Idiots

respect++

They are still busy, a extremely genial afrikaans dude +27870852964

Ways to spot the scam, saying he was trying to reach me all of last week (*), asking if I was on holiday (**), not selling anything we just want on hour of your time (***), wants to discuss my indirect trading account. On asking he is from FSI Pretoria (****).

* Trying to appear if there is a previous business relationship
** I am your friend, I have your interest at heart
*** Needs to be face to face to apply high pressure sales techniques
**** Misleading so you assume its a legitimate business, Financial Support Institute looks legitimate so you assume when he says FSI its the same.

Blocked and reported the number.

Just got a call from a very abrupt sounding afrikaans gentleman asking if I was aware that an "indirect portfolio" or "indirect trading portfolio" had been opened in my name. When I said no, he just hung up.

*edit - actually he hung up after I asked exactly who he was and who he's working for*

It's a scam or some sort, probably identity theft, but how does it work? What should I be checking if anything?

Truecaller said "Financial services"
I have received a few calls, from a very cocky colored guy....... he sommer gets aggressive

wonder if it is the same company...
