So...

Since about 2 or 3 weeks ago I've been having latency issues on a UNSHAPED ADSL account :(

Used to get around 250ms - 280ms, btu now it's 450ms - 500ms!

Thought its my PC so I formatted last week Thursday, but this made no difference.

Anyone else having similar issues?

Anyone on one of those VPN connections (like it24.co.za) having the same problem?

It seriously a pain dying on Heigan the Unclean when we need to dance...

unshaped i get 250-450, but im using shaped now and i get 400-500. the costs are not worth the minor latency.

The answer to your wow latency problems.

i went from 800-900ms to 350ms stable....Changed my whole wow experience. great product.

And no, it didnt just change the ping number...i can literally feel the difference in the response...its pretty much instant...great for pvp.

i think most of the SA players use the Frog server on lowerping.

BrianStephen, I am on the same Server as you. Using a post from Mybroadband.co.za: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=2069457&postcount=26 I lowered my latency by abt 150ms. Some evenings I now have a green computer [lower than 300ms] when I play. But I would say the average latency is now 350ms whereas it used to be 500ms.

the nagle fix is already implemented into the code base of wow. Then nagle fix is kind of useless these days, i tried it also and it made no difference at all. It effected my torrent download speeds horribly thou.

Well, there are 2 fixes in that post. It most certainly made a nice difference to my gaming experience. I play with a friend who stays 2km away from me on the same server. He has the exact same unshaped ADSL account as mine and his latency is usually 150ms to 200ms higher than mine since I did this change.

Yes you might feel a change but you will also feel the effect on general downloads. Im not so hard up this game anymore so i dont really care for latency, it has past its sell by date.

You can always change the values back to their default if you wish to download. It is fairly simple to do.

There are 2 changes on the link I provided. Make sure both are enabled. By tweaking and optimizing your registry, it makes a difference... no jokes.

I havent looked into using lowerping. Can it be used in conjunction with Ventrilo? If not then it is useless.

I wonder if it works with Windows 7 beta, it had interesting results on my http and torrent downloads back when I used XP

Usually you will find its the blizzard server itself causing all the lag

lower ping is used for game latency not voice chat. voice chat uses to much bandwidth and would thus degrade the service that lower ping provides. further more your statement is bit nubish. the purpose of the lower ping service is to give a reduced latency of the game, and not a reduced latency of ventrillo. so it is usefull and not useless.

secondly i would like to explain the nagle fix is used to to set the tcp_Nodelay flag, thus sending larger packets instead of single packets each time which causes tcp over head. So in theory you are actually still lagging because it builds up the packets before actually sending them.

and another factor no matter how many fixes you apple to your little puter, it will NOT fix hop issues, if the account you are using has multiple hops to the destination server YOU ARE GOING TO LAG no matter what you do, unless you bounce your connection through service.

My statement is still valid. If lower ping and Ventrilo cannot be used together then I am afraid it IS useless. The statement is far from nubish. Ventrilo is used extensively for raiding and is an essential tool. I would love a 200ms ping but what is the point of it without Ventrilo? I'll stick to 300ms and have the use of Ventrilo to coordinate the spark stacking while fighting Malygos.

are you mentally challenged? wtf does latency have todo with vent? you tunnel the port of wow into the lower ping account , and vent go's out the normal route.
