Info on PCFormat Live as ISP?

R10 a gig? thats awsum! but i must say, a pretty **** website...

Agreed. And they use Seacom, which might or might not be a issue for certain users. I decided not to go with them (although i really wanted to) after I was informed that they use the Seacom cable system. WebAfrica uses SAT3 which is the closest route for me to the US, and they have excellent service etc etc.

This is all cybersmart based bandwidth. So local latency suck if you don't stay in Cape Town cause they only have one IPC link in Cape Town....

As far as I know, Branded Internet and Cybersmart has no connection. Very hard to find info on Branded Internet, except for their own site, which is a wholesale site. Anybody know what's what?

Branded Internet buys their bandwidth in bulk from Cybersmart and then resells it to their clients who then resells it to the public.

They are all BISPs of www.Brandedinternet.co.za

If you don't believe me do a whois on the domains http://co.za/whois.shtml

And if you don't believe that then get a account at each ISP and then check the ip address which will be Cybersmart.

I know all this cause I have explored it.

Thx a lot, I've read your the WoW test post, after my previous post.

I wonder why BI denied any relationship with CS in a Techcentral interview. But, they were not prepare to say where their bandwitdt comes from.

Did not even think of whois.

Momentumnet sells IS uncapped bandwidth with 20%, 50% etc. aswell.

Thx

I've used them before (bought two 3GB packages) and have been extremely happy with the speeds. Will be switching over to them with a 50GB account permanently from October.

Probably moving to them next month. Their R130 for 10gb, is much better than my R100 for 5gb. Hopefully their speeds and latency is just as good as Openweb.

I have used MomentumNet (20 GB capped account) from beginning of October and I am very impressed with performance. On a 4 Mbps line and could easily get 400+ kbps on both local and international downloads and torrents. Also streamed 4 Youtube videos simultaneously without stuttering.

Telkom upgraded my line to 6Mbps the other day, got 600+ kbps without a problem. Also, XBox Live working well, no lagging when playing Bad Company 2.

Although it's a month by month account the downside seems to be payment by debit order only, no way I'll opt for that just to test.

Also going to move over from crapfrihost next month, the 50gb account is very good value. Also have been using their 3gb account for a month now to test and have had no problems with speed or latency.

There capped prices are cheap, but there support is ****ty, in fact worst support ive ever experienced from an isp.

Yes, I would have to agree with this comment to a point. I had an issue initially where the international browsing was extremely slow. After 3 days of no solution or answer from the call center, I told them it was enough and I want to speak to a person who actually knows what going on. It took a bit of verbal abuse from my side, but they finally got a senior engineer to phone me. From this point everything changed.

This guy was sincerely sorry for the bad service I received. He explained the problem they were experiencing and gave me a direct answer that it will take 48 - 72 hours to resolve. He then went on to phone me 2 days later to say they are making progress and the problem should be resolved soon. He then phoned me on the Sunday morning around 10 AM to say the issue is sorted and could I do a few speedtests and email him the results.

So yes, i got bad support initially but in my opinion they redeemed themselves.
