I ordered DSL 384 ontop of a new telephone line at the end of december. It is now the 5th of Feb and my DSL is installed and working. :D
Taken them one month, just abouts... Seems as thought they will make more of an effort to get you up and running if you dont have a line installed already. So maybe if u dont want to wait long... cancel your phone account, re-apply with DSL bundled as well and maybe theyll install it within a month and bit like me :>
just a thought...

I ordered a new phone line and ADSL together, installation took 14 days. Only trouble was the ADSL techie (a contractor) who came to check out the ADSL at my home had to install the phone line himself, because the Telkom techie who was meant to do it a few days before never turned up.

This was in Cape Town (Northern)

If you want a faster installation, just order your TelkomInternet account at the same time as your DSL. The guys from TelkomInternet will accelerate your installaiton. They kept calling me to check on my installation progress. The installation was originally scheduled for about 6 weeks, but with TelkomInternet nagging the technicians, it was eventually shortened to about 3 weeks.

Corruption FTW!

When you say new phone line, you mean there wasn't one before hand or your adding a second line?

Your all damn lucky. Tomorrow I will have been waiting 11 months for installation.

To those installing new lines + ADSL, did you request self-install and if so, were you charged ADSL installation regardless?

I just ordered an 384k ADSL line with no contract and it took 9 days. :D

mine took 8 working days including a port reset. self install. 384k

11months???? hows that? just re-apply and go for self install! thats madness.

To get my line moved from last day of use (at old house) to first day of use (at new house) took about 10 days. But wait, there's more. It all started two months prior to the last day of use with my application to move it, about 23 calls to Telkom, wasting about 9 hours on hold, 2 visits to the Telkom shop, 2 posts on Hello Peter in that time. In all that time not one Telkom person could tell me if there 1) was an exchange in the area, 2) or if ADSL was available. I only found out that there was an exchange, ADSL enabled, a week before installation happened. Then the first date of install, 27/12/06, nothing happened. Then the second date 03/01/07, nothing happened. Then one fine morning on the 06/01/07 a nock on the door. Hi I'm from Telkom, here to install your line - lucky for me I was on leave, I was totally caught by surprise, seeing that no appointment was arranged.

But there you have it, persistance, lots of cellphone calls, visits, posting moaning and groaning and I had my ADSL :)

I did self-install. Waited 7 months. Got charged installation. Phoned them and bitched. Got installation fee credited back.

got my self install in a week. Thought it was all going too smoothly - just got my phone bill. They've billed me 3GB shaped account for Jan - I only got it installed in Feb??!! :( And they bill you for the month in advance?

I ordered a new telephone line as well as ADSL 384. I was told by the somewat clueless person on the other end of the line that i would be charged for the ADSL and couldnt take the self install option as i had applied for the self install. Anyway as they promised that my dsl would be coupled with my line installation within 21 days i agreed to pay the ADSL installation charge. True to their word they arrived just over a month since my application and installed everything with out any hitches (Thank god). I then got a follow up call to find out how everything was doing, and i was told that my self install was still in place and that i would have to pay the ADSL installation charge. I hope this is the case, going to have to wait for the bill...
I have to say that Telkoms service was indeed efficient and helpfull, hell can freeze over after all.

was it difficult to install yourself? i just got a call from telkom saying if I install myself I can have it all done by next week otherwise I must wait 9 weeks for their technician. I said I'd install myself but what I know of installing adsl is very very very dangerous..am a bit nervous of messing things up

Just plug the line into the router, bring up the web console, enter your username and password and save. All there is to it.
