Intel identifies chipset design error, working on solution

Will this affect all P67 Chip sets or only motherboards manufactured by Intel? In other words if I buy an Asus P8P67 Deluxe motherboard could the SATA ports fail because of this problem?

The Asus Deluxe comes with the following:
Intel® P67 Express Chipset
2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports (gray)
4 xSATA 3.0 Gb/s ports (blue)
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Support RAID 0,1,5,10
Marvell® PCIe 9128 SATA 6Gb/s controller with HyperDuo function*
2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports (navy blue)
JMicron® JMB362 SATA controller*
2 xExternal SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports (1 x Power eSATA)
* These SATA ports are for data hard drives only. ATAPI devices are not supported.

the problem being that 6 SATA devices are running via the P67 (which is the faulty chip)... the others won't fail but some of those P67 will overtime give out (if you're part of the 5%+ who are effected)

Just to add, the Deluxe is not available and doesn't look likely to appear soon in any great number.

You guys know about Intel recalling all the Sandy Bridge i5/i7 CPU's right? Recall

This now makes getting the 4MB i5/i7's, (which the SB was meant to replace), much harder to source.

Add to this the Chinese New Year, and stock isn't getting made and sent in.

Good luck to us all

What a terribly written article. It's not the CPU where the fault lies, but rather in the chipset which sits on the motherboard, so there is nothing wrong with the CPU, it is the motherboard that suffers the recall.

Perhaps you missed this thread that's been running for a week now?

Despite being localised to the Cougar support chip on the mobo, Intel stopped supplying their CPU's. They even took some back from suppliers and dealers. Some more are coming through, but the problem will affect anyone trying to use the SATA 3 ports for HDD or Optical drives (DVD etc).
