Hi
Need help deciding on a laptop, one is Acer E1 core i3 and the other is HP 250 Intel Quad Core Pentium. Which one is good? Will not freeze every now and then? I use browser too much and google sheets alot so I need something that will respond well to my commands,I tried HP 15 and it was too slow, took 5 mins reload browser tabs, not network being slow but the laptop being slow,I see i3 is the latest thing.

So which one is good based on my above uses? The i3 is in Acer and the Intel Quad Core Pentium is in HP. Your advise will be highly appreciated.

Short answer is go with the i3 laptop.

Long answer
Both perform similar but depends which i3 and core2quad you comparing. For a desktop gaming core2quad would be the best option but an I3 is much much more efficient and would perform very close to the quadcore..The i3 battery will last the longest because the core2quads are still on the 45nm manufacturing process where the i3 are on 32nm. The i3 has a built in memory controller so there's no need for a northbridge like on the core2quads which also result in lower power consumption. The i3 most likely comes with ddr3 so switching between programs is slightly faster.

Intel Quad Core CPUs are obsolete. Rather go with the i3 laptop because it's more sophisticated and faster.

Thank you very much for this informed analysis, hmm maybe it's time I try Acer, was using Samsung RV510 and it's still fast and reliable just my lil brother needs a laptop and im giving the Samsung to him,I will try the i3 though the quad core was tempting me with it's free bag and extra 250 GB storage.

That's what I have realised but the reason im looking at the quad core is because it comes with free bag and extra 250 GB harddrive .If it wasn't for that I would have bought the machine with i3 rightaway with it's 500.GB which have only it's 425 or475 usable..thank you for your opinion.

Rather go for the i3, has hyper-threading which the pentium lacks. Only downside is it uses a bit more power but overall I would say it performs better.

I would chose i3 unless there are specific requirements. However problem with HP15 could be low RAM, so your testing is not conclusive. Otherwise it would't be so big difference in general performance when browsing. Make note of operating system, system RAM total and available for applications. Some brands do overload system with bloatware. To test how much memory is initially free reboot laptop and open Task Manager before opening any applications.

Yeah, these days I would not recommend anything under 4GB really. You are gonna start paging if you have lots of browser tabs open.

Erm, this isn't 2007. Both could be 22nm and both would definitely use DDR3.

Maybe post links to both the Acer and HP?

The Core 2 processors were produced in 65nm and later 45nm. They were phased out ages ago.

The clue here is "quad core Pentium" which means that the chip is from the Bay Trail family. I'd go with the i3-based laptop as well, it'll be the better performer.

Also, a Core i3 trounces most Core 2 Quad chips in almost every benchmark. The Core i3-2130, which is from Sandy Bridge mind you, was already making the Core 2 QX9775 look silly.

Don't confuse core 2 quad with the new Intel quad core processors. For instance the N3510 was released in 2013, long after the core duo and quad cpu's were discontinued. AFAIK all the core 2 cpu's were LGA775 and the last one was released in 2010.

I'm not saying the i3 isn't better but without the correct cpu models it is hard to say which one will be best.
