First off, that article was seriously biased. Several Intel chips are mentioned while there is only mention of one AMD chip.
And yes, while Intel definately has the fastest chips out there at the moment, you do pay a premium for it. Price vs performance is usually where AMD is very good, and this is what most people want - highest preformance for the lowest cost. And its not as if normal users will ever see real world gains from the high end Intel chips anyway.
Finally, AMD is releasing several new chips in the coming year, like the Phenom 975, and revised versions of most of the rest of the Phenom line with better power efficiency (something that has been a minus point for them).
