Interconnect agreement concluded

Hmm... don't know if I should take this as good news or not.

On the one hand, rates will drop from 1 Feb. But on the other hand, the operators now have something to use against ICASA should they not be happy with ICASA's findings.

If ICASA find's that the rate should be 60c, and not 78c or whatever, they might fight it / oppose it, and everyone will just give in since we already did get a rate cut...

I'm skeptical. Nothing these thieving operators do can be trusted, especially something that looks good on the surface.

I'm upset with the rate and the date, sorry but its too little, they've been raping us for how long why such a small decrease, and why not from the 1st December.

It shouldn't be the cellphone companies saying what is going to happen.
The DOC should be telling them what has to happen !

I think next year was chosen to still give the networks the Christmas period. This is reasonable news and a step in the right direction.

Telkom

So phoning molbile from Telkom should also come down a little???

The smell of rats are still strong.... acutally getting stronger...... I also do not trust this lot:sick:

Personally I am pleased that the mobile operators have reached agreement on the MTR as at least this provides some direction in the short term. Any other process would have taken much longer to provide any benefit to anyone. In any event I suspect Icasa will continue with their study and hopefully we will see further reductions based on their regulatory process.

In any event the only real effect of this reduction in MTR is that the level that a competitor can potentially enter the market is below R1/minute for the first time. However as this reduction does not provide VC, MTN or CellC with any cost saving it will require some imaginative planning by them to effectively create the perception that the customer is receiving a benefit due to this reduction.

does this apply to people under contract too?

This does not apply to prepaid or contract rates - this is purely the wholesale MTR that is being reduced.

However this quote from the minister for what its worth:
The minister says the agreement would put “money back in the pockets of ordinary South Africans who need it now more than ever”.

“I’m glad to report that the mobile operators have agreed to introduce new and affordable retail products based on their reduced rates, from 1 December 2009,” Nyanda says

“I have been assured these developments will introduce more competition in the retail market. That on its own is the big early Chirstmas and Easter present we can give to the nation.”

Interesting that John Holdsworth didn't know about this when he presented at the MyBB conference in the morning - I guess he's not as close to the Minister as he'd like to be...

Hmm...he was pushing for lower...so maybe he did know....
or maybe he was sworn to secrecy....
or maybe he is not part of the R1m+ Mercedes club... you know this type of info is only told to the club members... Even Pravin Ghordan was excluded, he's in the R500k TOYOTA Lexus bracket...

initial.. yah we will see how long the initial period is.

Dont get too happy about this dumbass comment.

Yes sure we will not pay as much for this anymore but it will come back to nyanda via the eskom price hike nothing in this world is free.

Dumbasses like nyanda will still be getting his million rand salary. and his free beamers.
