I love the way they say that they want to correct the perception that they are regulating usage and then go on to say why they have to regulate usage.

Based on this thread, and some others where Telkom scabs gave comments, I do not think it would be wise to have a Telkom rep sell us the same crap here as that publication. They will be creamed and I will be on top of the list to do it
 
A good point pupa. This is why we need to have the telkom rep on a regulated forum. One where only approved questions are posted and only mods/rpm/rep are allowed to post.

We can always use the normal adsl discussion/off topic for slagging off telkom if the need arises.

I think we've pretty much shown that the comparitive prices around the world are a pittance compared to the soul-thieving, gut-wrenching prices which Telkom is forcing down our broadband parched throats. Now how about we send figures to the press?
 
Agreed Antithesis, Telkom wants the media to straighten out the facts so how about someone publishing the facts? I think that it's one way to lay some cards on the table and for Telkom to realize that the ADSL user base aren't some ignorant idiots just interested in sending a couple of emails a months but intelligent, educated and above all else informed people who realize that only a monopoly controls the telecoms industry in this country.

I agree rainman and AntiThesis, the problem is to get a paper or editor to go against TELKOM and print the facts feelings and issues on this forum. Many things have being said here. No newspaper of any strength printed this or reputed TELKOM on for what they do. Why?
For fear of TELKOM cutting their infrastructure (Tel lines)??
For fear of the Goverment protecting Telkom ??

Comon editors I DARE YOU DO DO SOMETHING! Many off you read this forum. Many of You feel the same way. Where are You. ? I sent many of You information and links to here. Wake up, stand up and do your duty. Make Yourselve's proud, where is your pride?.

Whe saw in this article Telkom do read the main paper, and cares what is said in the main stream as this response was quick to do damage control with the uninformed consumers in mind

But then again, there nothing in it for You, so be a typical South African and just do nothing!!

wait so if they don't regulate then why is the shaping and how can you compare 15 / 30 GB to 3GB especially when they complain when compared to the same countries wrt to price.. they need to make up their mind. Compare or not compare either way we getting riped off.

What I read from all of Telkom :

yes, some ISP's were taking advantage of the situation... but now! ... telkom has the attitude of the consumer has to pay. This is a antiquanted thinking style of "Decrease proffit??!?! stuff that! - we will push the costs down to the consumer! problem solved"

Well look, I don't know what further to do. I've contacted all the major newspapers/news places with this info. I've contacted ICASA and Telkom. Hell, I've even contacted the SNO to see if they'll make a statement about Telkom :D

Makes little difference to me at this point I'm afraid. My phone line and ADSL will be shut off at the end of this month. One day when things are affordable again and Telkom aren't the only choice I'll get it going again. For now I'll just use my work connection.

It's funny that Telkom mentions BT offering a 512k and 1024k service.

They better call them because as far as BT is aware their slowest, cheapest most crappy ADSL entry level speed is 2Mbps.
 
I really like the part where some ISPs are looking forward to this model, do you see better prices comming out soon..?

I have worked out that it is probably cheaper to leave SA and relocate to the UK, just for the 24Mbps lines :)
 
Telkom's utterly ludicrous claims need to be refuted, point for point with a full page ad of our own. If RPM and Clara need funds to do this I am willing to donate. Some classic quotes:

Telkom:

I could go on but you get the idea. Telkom are always "misunderstood" because it's hard to talk when your foot is constantly jammed into you mouth.
