Interleaved(your thoughts)

Ideally Telkom would provide a platform for us to select this for our lines ourselves. But that is the sort of (very rational) wishful thinking which we wouldn't be wise to hold our hopes up for in Telkom's case.
Right now, your only option is to contact Telkom's support and request that they apply the change. It must be a lot of admin for them to keep changing this for everyone, so who knows how much longer they'll be willing to do it for, especially considering the fact that every few months the ASSIA seems to take over those changes again regardless ^_^ I too had my line switch to Interleave a year ago, had it corrected, only to find that we're seeing the same frustrating episode now recurring

phoned the helpdesk 4 times today, also tried the online chat..

people have no idea what Fast Path of Interleaved is...

You can change your router's SNR target via telnet or SSH. On my router (DSL 2750U) it's:
Code:
telnet 10.0.0.2
[enter username "admin"]
[enter password]
adsl configure --snr [enter percentage here]

This no longer works with the new telkom system as it forces the modem to ignore these setting and still sync at a rate that will not drop the SNR below 6dB. If it means the line drops 20 times then it will just reduce line speed continuously until it no longer drops.

That was a nice trick to get max speed on your line if you had a stable line with a SNR of 4dB but now things have changed.

Interesting. I usually only use it to increase my snr to stabilise my line.

Mine has been changed as-well in the last few days. Frustating, now what?

How exactly do you check stuff like this? I find the Telkom website to be confusing as all hell.

Also, what the hell is "interleaved"?

This is because everyone that actually knew what they were doing was let go. They've got a bunch of dumbasses running the show now. Just another day in this "wonderful" country of ours...

So my line was stable on 10239k sync speed fath path with down SNR of 10.5dB

I think through the night it got changed to interleave and now my sync is still the same but SNR is 6dB and the line is dropping every 5min and I'm unable to use my adsl at all.....

This system is just designed to break everything. It's not fixing ANYTHING.

8mb line:

I can't reach 8mb when I have a 1.6mb overhead. My line runs stable at an SNR of 4.5dB with interleave enabled, so I could easily run it at 8mb. Why can't we just have a system that allows us to tweak our own line settings on the Telkom website, rather than this automatic bs which never works properly?

You need to log in to your router and go to the ADSL statistics area. There you sould see if it is set to FAST mode or not, or you can check if your interleaver depth is greater than 1.

So I see Telkom has closed my fault by indicating it's been restored. Um, no it hasn't. My download speeds are still down below 3mbps.

An Afrikaans speaking omie from Telkom phoned me regarding my line fault (can't sync at 10Mbps although VDSL is available and I'm very close to the exchange) and he actually told me I'm close to the exchange.

He phoned back 3 mins later telling me that he changed my profile from an automated learning system to the original ADSL profile I should have been on anyway and saw a marginal improvement on my SNR, but he is still sending someone out to come and fix the line for me.

That's a very refreshing surprise.

could be worse, after the new DSMS system started up my line attentuation went up from 49db to 56db my line drops atleast 3 times a day and cant get anything higher than 2mbps BTW this is a 4mb line :( .... . and the shocking part is my modulation changes from ADSL 2+ to G.dmt everyday once had it to G.dmt.bis f%@# knows what that is. Don't know if anybody else is experiencing this issue??

Yeah they definitely screwed something up. My upload speed was always 512 kbps, but now I can't get anything higher than 256 kbps no matter what I do. Also, the SNR or noise margin or whatever the hell this confusing stuff is called jumps around like a mad rabbit. At any given moment my noise margin can be anywhere from 4db to 8db, even though the Telkom tech that was at my house claims that they have fixed the problem.

Also, my line disconnects randomly for some unknown reason.

What modem is that? My Netgear doesn't show Max Attainable rate....

So is a negative good by the upstream and downstream output power?

This was my router stats before uploadfromtaptalk1450719139917.png
