intermittent 2mb speeds

I've got a 2mb line with Telkom and a 2mb uncapped premium account with MWEB. It has been very reliable and pretty much maxed out when downloading.
Speed tests would generated 1.6-1.8mb results, but in the last 3 or so weeks my speed seems to randomly reduce by half maxing out at 0.7-0.8mb, then going back to full speed a few hours later.
I'm not throttled by mweb, I've checked and had it confirmed, and I've tried my Afrihost account and get the same results - so the problem is not apparently ISP related.
Has any one else had this problem? it looks like Telkom have almost throttled my line, but I cant see that being the case...or can it?
I wonder if the intermittent speeds are a result of their speed upgrades?
I keep an eye out once my line is upgraded from 2-4mb.
Location - Sea Point Cape Town.

HI justplain, I have checked your account now and from what I can see is that your account looks good on our side.

When you see that your speed is slow I suggest that you setup the router with Telkoms guest details and do a speed test on www.saix.net so that we have a comparison.

If the speeds a re the same then it would point to the line itself giving some trouble.

I doubt it is Telkom throttling as you would have been throttled by MWEB via the data portion.
Telkom wouldn't throttle the line itself.

Good suggestion from Mweb guy. Telkom blames Mweb or Mweb blames Telkom, so using a guest account is a good way to test your line speed. Also how old is your modem as this can also cause problems if there are blown capacitors on the ADSL Modem.

Yes as mentioned I have the same reduced speed when using my Afrihost account.
I'll give the Telkom one a try to, thanks
