Intermittent Fasting

Have been doing IF for the last six months I normally do 20/4 during the week and 16/8 over the weekends I eat basically whatever I want and have lost an incredible 28KG. I know I could push it even more but this works for me (in fact it's the only diet/lifestyle choice that has worked and I am able to maintain)

If you have a moment would you mind unpacking the bold part a bit? Are there any specific things that you do limit? Do you track calories or carbs?

Yes, I do eat fish and other sea food but not cephalopods. 100% on the Asian cuisine. I see you're in SW, If you ever find yourself Cape Town side then check out Mr Changs in Sea Point. Best I've had by a long chalk.
I think you'll find the key to eating whatever you want and losing weight is to not want all the delicious things.

Im also starting IF , i usually find it quite easy anyway to skip bfast and lunch at work, but like some of you, snacking is my downfall. time to stop!

I am starting today with a 72 hour water fast to cleanse myself and then continuing with LCHF + IF.

Bloody hell, I tried not eating from last night 8 until now.
Was hungry the entire morning.
Just murdered 2 cans of tuna and a woolies packet of grated, raw beetroot.

I have plenty of energy storage rolls
:crylaugh: golden!

.... the first few times is crazy hard but it gets easier, trust me. My weekly 24 just ended, time for cream coffee, boiled egg, muffin and a piece of cheese

8:00 p.m. to 1:00 lunchtime. It's pretty easy to skip breakfast but difficult to cut the snacks out.

I'd rather be overweight than go down the calorie road.

I'm curious to see how it goes so I'm going to try it for the week.
Problem is I'm ravenous after exercise in the mornings.

Do you lose muscle weight with intermittent fasting?

Google Hugh Jackman's wolverine IF method... basically he claims IF was the only way he could get lean and ripped for his part in the various X-Men/Wolverine movies without losing excessive muscle...

My own experience has been that I definitely lost muscle during my first 3 or 4 months (when my weightloss was greatest), but since then, while continuing on IF, I've managed to put most of that muscle back, possibly added some even. I'm not losing anymore weight, but definitely "looking" better.

1 week - 4.7kg down.

I expect slower progress the next few weeks, a lot of that was obviously water weight.

I'm not wildly obese to begin with but I can feel the change in the visceral fats already, bending over to tie my shoelaces doesn't result in the same gut juggling feeling it used to.

Hunger isn't terminal. It's a natural state for the body to experience hunger. We live in a world where people have a vested interest in convincing us that each and every whim must be satisfied immediately ...mostly by buying their crap.

The last hour or so is always a bit of test of ones willpower but I see it as character building.

True, and the constant insulin spikes that **** with appetite don't help either.

Yeah that happens. Currently on 109 hours, planning on breaking on Thursday evening.

Agree 100%

I've done a three week water-only fast and you soon learn the difference between "real hunger", and your brain saying you are hungry when it's merely habit. I've found fasting incredibly beneficial in terms of realizing own's own inner strength, and it's definitely a character-building exercise. Character building isn't quite the right term, but I can't think of a better one at the moment, but I think we are on the same page.

On a more esoteric level, fasting seems to also have a profound effect on one's emotional health if you spend some time dealing with negative/unwanted/painful emotions.

My moer.
What was your starting weight?

Tomorrow will be day 7 with only Sunday that I faltered due to golf+beer.
Have lost nothing. And I did not feel like I was eating that much more, in total, during the eating segment.

And our scale is inconsistent, one day it's 89 the next 91 then 90, so go figure.

wow, that's impressive.

I find the first three days difficult and then it becomes easy. Once your digestive tract is clear the hunger seems to switch off. I actually sat every evening watching the food channel. It's quite interesting watching food and yet knowing you are not eating. Also, the experience of smelling food cooking, and being around other people who are eating is interesting. You learn a new appreciation for the smells of food! It's weird, but I found watching food, and smelling food to be strangely satisfying!

I started my 3 day fast on Sunday night. Currently at 36 hours now, for the most part it's been fine, only last night when I got home after work was it a bit challenging to ignore the fridge but I managed it! Woke up on day 2 with zero hunger. Let's see what the next day and a half holds.
