Weird thing. Since the storm last night I can surf the net locally, and have been able to connect to http://www.htc.com/, but not google, isohunt, microsoft, ibm and other international sites (such as www.sex.com :)). I assume that the telkom international link is down, or likely the 15 million users in SA have to share the 9600 baud modem Telkom use to link us with international community.

It is weird that no-where I see any comments about this, as if it is down/slow, people cannot google their favourite subjects to pass worktime, and people cannot even download porn :).

Anyone else have this problem, or is it only me (for some real strange reason) ?

I was just about to ask a similar question.

Last night, somewhere between 7 and 8, my line kept on dropping. About 15 minutes later it managed to stay up and I could access some local sites like news24. However, a few minutes later even that disappeared and I couldn't access ANY sites. After about 8, everything magically started working again. Speaking to one or two people at work, one mentioned his internet was down and another one's line stopped working altogether.

I'm not sure if this is merely a coincidence, or was there some global outage somewhere?

I had the same thing Thurs night (in Wynberg, Cape Town). Everything died, tried Axxess and Web Africa but had zero Int'l link and intermittent local. Rebooted modem about a dozen times, helped nada. Also surprised there weren't more comments on it today.

well my IS semi-shaped imaginet account is running very slow yet my telkom accounts working perfect
