Slight degradation since last test.

In short, the world and every server lying beyond SA has become disconnected. To state it in basic terms.

So we (SA) are dead ducks. I suppose people will need to be paid some other day.

Guys... I just called in on my 8ta line and it seems that it is fine. From what I gather, 8ta either doesn't use SAT-3 (using SAIX) just like Telkom and people on either one are thus largely unaffected by the outage. Mweb, I assume, is the same?
 
Amazing that SAT-3 investors includes Telkom Group but 8ta works?

others are France Telecom (12.08%), Nitel (8.39%); TCI, a subsidiary of AT&T (12.42%) and VSNL (8.93%).

Funny thing, lately I've also been considering doing just that quite strongly.

Guess thats what happens when you play a dumbed down version of wow in the form of diablo3.
 
@abandonallhope : True, I just thought I will no grind for gold in D3, I may as well just do some PvP and DS 10mans. Found a guild that is running raids once a week and the latency is awesome siting at 190ms.
 
If only Ti sold prepaid GBs :D...

I think it is quite obvious from our posting that Ti is your redundancy here...#justsaying :)

/got some NNTP (grabbing TV Awards..) from a Europe server on Astra / ND and no slowdowns.

You realise the irony of that statement right? When WoW is already a dumbed down version of itself.
 
How is it that Mweb is running smoothly, backup kicked 100% normal, why dont the other isps have the same "backup" its the same everytime we have an outage mweb users back up and running but every other isp has nothing?

"The SAT3 outage is not affecting our customers as we have sufficient capacity on SEACOM and failovers has kicked in as expected. "

why isnt every ISP saying this?

We have just received further updates on this issue, we are receiving additional bandwidth capacity on our fail-over links which will be live soon. On top of this we've been advised that the repair ship has been dispatched and there is a possibility that it would be repaired by today, however, this cannot be guaranteed.

We will keep everyone updated here if and when we get more information

Where exactly is the problem? Is it between South Africa and Sesimbra (Portugal) or from Sesimbra onwards to the UK/Europe?

Unfortunately it is. No one can afford to have lots of spare capacity lying around for a rainy day. The cable operators typically charge full price for 5 or so years regardless of whether its in use or not. No one is willing to pay even 10% more for their Internet but is ready to start complaining the moment there is a blip.

Having said that, seems MWEB and Ti are not as effected as the rest. Big wakeup call for the smaller guys, hope they are crunching ideas now :).
