International Slow

End of the month ; and it appears some SA banks host their servers North of the cable break along the coast of Portugal, and not in SA.

Amazing.

No one is willing to pay even 10% more for their Internet but is ready to start complaining the moment there is a blip.

Thats right, I'm not willing to pay 10% more, I already pay over R1000 a month for a simple 4mb connection... How can you say I must now pay extra for the ISP to secure redundancy, surly, somewhere along the line, someone at one of these ISP's realized "hold on, what if this cable breaks, we should have a spare one in case." For example, I pay for a Openweb gold account, on DSL Heaven (which runs beautifully), and have an afrihost 2 gig account for backup, ie redundancy. However, that was useless this morning, as neither Webafrica nor Afrihost seemed to have redundancy in place.

\Rant over

Anyway, it seems to be working now, but I hope they have learnt their lesson, because this is bound to happen again.

Tracert to BBC is really odd

I ran it multiple times in-case it was a ping spike.

Ping in Dota 2 is sitting about ~400 ms a-posed to the regular 250ms

Still cant play diablo 3 with the lag but everything else is running flawlessly

Using Telkom here wish they fix it fast so I can play again

Am cruising on my Telkom line....

#justsaying...

Some people use their lines for more than email and facebook, and trust me telkom ISP accounts are also affected by this.

Also, every single soul in SA on ADSL has a "Telkom line"

i think i read a post somewhere earlier about Mweb all running as normal is this true?

Lost packets to Europe 100% on any IS backbone.

So did someone shoot down the satellite ? Or was it taken out of the SA redundancy loop. And yes all DSL users are reliant on Telkom no matter what ISP you are with.

I'm working from home... linked back to office. No outage even on international links to US or Asia.

That means the Telkom link between your home and your office works. From there, it depends how your office connects to the rest of the world.

Linked back ?

Anyway it's all about the intl latency, so you can forget about playing diablo3, WoW et al, even on your telkom account.

Because the connection to your office is local, you won't notice the slightest difference.
