International Speeds?

Get ready for Sunday

I need to inform you of the following:

IPNet are planning to cut all ADSL services over to dedicated Cisco 10k routers over the following few weeks. The first cutover will happen Sunday 11 September at 00:00 till 06:00.

From someone that actually cares about other's frustrations because of a lack of information ;)

They've noticed

From SAIX noticeboard:

9 Sep 2005, 21:25:34 simonskp
Our technicians are attending to the fault.

9 Sep 2005, 22:32:48 simonskp
Our technicians are still attending to the fault.

9 Sep 2005, 23:37:42 simonskp
Overseas technicians are attending to the fault.
Seriously bad timing for me - uploaded new code this afternoon to my US-based site with the intention of watching it this evening... of course it then brings my server down _after_ I lose all FTP / SSH access... frustration to the max.

Also, regarding the scheduled maintenance for midnight on Sunday:
Planned work has been cancelled
Mmm....

Spoke to saix and asked them to update their notice board. Such a pitty that the only thing changed was the time!

i seriously doubt anything will be done by tomorrow knowing those lazy fools. Will be lucky if they even fix it by monday. :P Oh well, i guess i will go and watch paint dry until its sorted out. *sigh*

We can only hope someone will lose their job over this. Accountability, accountability.

yes, because if they don't fix it we will all get upset and go to another ADSL provider.
Hence they will do everything in their power to keep their valued customers happy.

IMO this has nothing to do with the Telia link to New York. I cannot access a Swaziland site (3 Piggs Poker). Unless their international link to New York also routes to Swaziland, the notice board has bull**** on it. Smells like a coverup.

whoa

...and I was this close to calling it a night: [--]

Yay.

i'm sick of this crap. best effort service doesn't mean it has to be **** service. they don't want us to compare prices to overseas - ok fine lets compare service quality. overseas get the best of both. for the price we pay, we should be getting guaranteed service. oops i forgot, that's for the even higher priced diginet lines  then again we can't blame it on not enough techies, the blame goes to the fat greedy pigs on top who laid off thousands of staff despites billions in profit

screw you telkom - i hope each and every one of you tramp in dogsh!t tomorrow

We are busy monitoring the link.

Resolution Description : Cleared while localising
Cause of Failure : Link between Rosebank and New York running errors.
Status : Resolved

Why doesnt that fault look like something new... oh right, because the same link failed due to "land slides in random(city) # no where near new york" a little while ago.

So is it fixed yet ?

Emule = 0 down 12 up
Axxess = 1st month and Im wondering about if they were the Problem ??
Durban = K@k weather

as of around 8am saturday, I notice my torrents are back, and IRC connects again - so yip - it seems to be..

Maybe its Telkom being incredibly clever, and tactically evil - and realising that if it pulls the plug at a peak local high-usage time (friday evening) - it can save a vast amount of money by keeping the bandwidth that would otherwise be used up? Whatever the cost of b/w - Telkom didn't have to use it for most of friday night, as it usually would have.
Therefore, as far as I can tell, Telkom MADE (or SAVED) money last night.

If this theory is right - then we'll see supposed 'outages' always occurring at times when the majority of users would otherwise be online and downloading heavily.

LG, with all the conspiracies you think up about Telkom and it's evilness, I think it's just sheer stupidity on their side and that everything could be explained by some ingrate who probably was cleaning the "bandwidth room" and decided he needed to vacuum and pull the plug.

I think some lanie at Telkom wanted to download some massive movie so he arranged with his technicians to kill everyone else so he could get all the bandwidth for himself on his brand new ADSL 1024k line which is probably paid for by us.
