Internet Access Dying

Need to find out if there is a Firmware update for the Neoflex device. It would be nice if it would reset a dead connection or allow uPNP so I can do it from the network. Even when connection dies, unit status indicates its connected which is not true. Further more, if another user starts up their device, they will have your IP allocated to them. This means if you use dynDNS, someone else's connection gets really busy.

I have posted in another thread but it seem Mr Rep is watching this one. What are the SMTP setting btw

Thanks

@Neotel, Hello, thanks for that. I was starting to think it did not exist if one hosts their own mail. Guess I am going to fire up the old server now and my web page can live again also.

Looking forward to that firmware update especially since it will be the simplest thing to add a reaction to check a net request with no response. If nothing comes back for 2min reset. It should not take developers a week to do this. I can also recommend a developer who is a specialist in dead gateway detection scripts to assist.

I am in Northcliff Johannesburg and also have the same problem on and off. I am using prime and sometimes I just cant access any pages or do downloads even though the connection is still active. Rebooting the device and removing the battery doesn't always work

Same for me in Wilgeheuwel for the last couple days

Same here, sort of. While I do have the intermittent connection dropping problems. I also have a problem with my connection stopping while I'm still connected then picking up after 20s. For that 20s can't ping or do anything. Neotel I have pm'd my details to you.

@ Neotel Rep

I would like to bring the following to your attention, and hopefully on my 2nd attempt get some kind of feedback.

On Friday night (the 10th) my connection hung, and remained in this state until late Saturday night/Sunday morning. Continuous attempts to disconnect/reconnect, Switching the device off and on again, rebooting the pc, taking the battery out of the device etc. etc. etc. all led to exactly the same result... when the connection was re-established it would carry data for a few seconds (this was very random since on some attempts 20 or so pings would get through, and on other none would get through) and then hang.

Last night the same thing happened for about 10-15 minutes.

I also get quite a few disconnects, and it appears that sometimes my connection gets really bad which requires a restart of the device in order to get it running again.

Yesterday morning at about 5am i did a speedtest and got 125kbps down / 97 kbps up, and later the morning i realised the phone was in "X1" mode, a hard reset solved that problem though.

Is my phone supposed to think it's a mobile disco??? The bloody backlight sporadically goes on and off, also if you pick up the device it sounds like there is something loose inside - nothing major, but i thought it would be worth a mention since it could possibly be device related??

Could you please look into this for me?

Thanks

I get exactly the same problem. Random hangings of line. My disconnects dont occur as often though. (im on prime)

Last night i setup a connection through windows , not using the neotel console thing. And changed the dns servers from the standard neotel stuff to the 2 openweb dns servers.

My connection ran fine for hours on end. I had one weird hanging disconnect thing , but after phone reboot it was fine. The connection was still running this morning after i woke up.

Thus maybe some of you guys should try using other dns servers as a test. This way we can maybe isolate where the problem is.

My speed has not been good for the last week though ... i cant get more than about 125 kb/s. My rssi is still low (75) but i cant get my old 250 kb/s hehehe.

EDIT:

Scratch my whole plan ... this POS still keeps dying ... same dns BS ... at this stage iburst was better.

Update:

worse than ever. At home my neotel disconnects on average every 10 minutes.

got the device at work to test if it might be the unit thats defective , but at work its suddenly rocksolid and super fast. The funny thing is my rssi at work is 80-85 and at home 75-79.

how the hell does that work?

Internet access just died again. Please note not a disconnect. It is almost like the DNS server is suddenly unreachable

@ Newb-lite:

Please may I have your name, Neotel service number and contact details.

I get the same stuff happening in Paulshof, Jhb. My modem says it's connected, but no data coming through. I can switch the modem off and on, maybe a few pings will get through, then it will die again. Mostly, resetting the modem has no effect. Several hours usually have to pass before it comes right again.

I'm not even going to bother phoning the "technical" department, as they know less about the issue than my mom does, and she can't even work a mouse...

Don't even get me started on the erratic connection and signal strength. It used to be fine, but then they "upgraded" the base station twice and each time messed something up to make it worse. I am lucky if I can get 300kbps downlink speeds, which is crap considering the base station is less than 1km away from my flat.

I guess the trouble continues. Was thinking of going back to ADSL but then I had to measure why I chose Neotel again. Would really prefer if my unit started working well again. I have been pushing Neotel to so many people that I have to answer to now. Will Neotel do something before I have immigrate for my personal safety. I would appreciate if a public announcement was made as to the problems that are occurring and why, with time frames to repairs. I am clinging to the faith for now.

I have the Neoflex 10gig operating at 5kb/s. This means no youtube, no heavy flash content, no aspx or php pages with defined timeouts. It also means double reloads with full minute waiting times for them to load. Very much like no internet. What's really driving me up the wall is the fact that my dynamic dns does not work anymore as it did when I initially got the device. Unit seems to only update once but, never loads the link back on time anyway. Further more, I find ip shown is not my current ip but some person's. This is a firmware issue.

I would like to know
- where can I get the latest firmware
- what is the issues with the connection and how long it will take to be fixed
- why does my dynamic dns not refresh correctly
- what happens when Neotel rep reads the complaints, what can be expected.

Whoa! Am I the only one experiencing disconnects every 10 seconds? I constantly have to disconnect and reconnect every 10 seconds because my connection dies, i.e. no data throughput.

Just about everyone is having those issues. You're not the only one. :/

I experience the same issue in Constantia Kloof, but it happens erratically.

It happens to me too, and this week more than ever before. But if I disconnect, reconnect, disconnect, reconnect, etc. for a long enough time, I usually stumble onto a good connection. Actually, my Neotel connection has been very fast lately, never under 70kbps. I live in Kenilworth in Cape Town and if my connection stays like this, I might actually start recommending Neotel to people soon.
