This. Could you also take a picture of where the lan cable enters the computer please.
Also, if possible, can you check under device manager if a network device is visible and its name?

And also, list all, if any, devices under Unknow Devices under Device Manager.

It's a brand new pc. Pc was getting into the network until I formated it.

Go to Device Manager and see which devices have exclamations or red X's. I'll bet you LAN drivers aren't installed.

That's a red light, your driver is most likely not installed.
You might have to use a USB to transfer the driver install files from another computer.

The device did not come with any drivers. Double checked that.

There's the problem. Go to the manufacturer website support section and get the drivers for your PC model, note the version of Windows and if it's 32 or 64 bit.

Only get the Ethernet driver, once that's installed windows should get all the drivers automatically for you.
Strange though that windows did not auto install an Ethernet driver on install.

PC probably came with Win 8.1. He reinstalled Win 7 and the original Win 7 install for that ethernet adapter wasn't in its driver database.

check that your ip settings on the pc are set to automatically setup IP and Dns.

Got your motherboard disk? Reload the LAN driver.

In the end it was a "simple" matter of installing the drivers. I was fortunate to find it and successfully install it. The instant the drivers were installed, the internet was there. I am immensely relieved. A whole day was devoted to this, but solved by all who contributed here.
