I did the same with 3 home PC's all on SP1.x. Very straight forward. No issues, no problems. Do I really need SP2? I hope not.
 
Obviously you need SP2. Its got critical patches, unless you like getting lovsan viruses, allowing your machine to send out spam and a lot of others things. Read this article titled "0wn3d in 200 seconds". "An XP PC running SP1 was breached by an intruder through a hole that the Sasser worm used, only four minutes into the test...."

Even the SP2 firewall had serious bugs which were only recently patched.
 
Ok I know this is a bit off topic but didn't want to make a whole new thread about it.

I have got a Smoothwall box set up now and everythings working fine but I'm running emule and it won't download anything at all. I'm running it on a custom port btw, and I've checked the firewall logs in Smoothwall and they show me all the people being blocked.

I just gotta find out now how to make it all connections to a port...
