Edge is still in infantry and fully comply to Microsoft standards - buggy. Even some essential usability features are absent, for example dragging URL from address bar to the folder.

As for Microsoft pushing Edge, the entire plot is quite complicated. In many corporates IE is a mandatory browser. They use proprietary application which do not run on other browsers. Edge do not support extensions, so pushing Edge would not make any sense. You will have better picture if you consider that Windows XP is still in place. In this point of view killing IE8 is a way to force these customers to upgrade to the recent version of Windows. It is a hudge money behind this plot. Edge has nothing to do.
 
I love Chrome on my desktop and laptop, but when I switch to an Atom Windows tablet with limited resources, Edge rocks. Fast, not a RAM hog, and actually integrates well with Windows 10's touch support - unlike Chrome.

I think Microsoft may be on the right track here - but I suspect the moment they start adding features and add-on support, performance will go down the drain again :(
