Speed: please tell me about your real experience, eg websites you visit where you can actually experience the diffs ...
Simplicity: Not sure how you measure that, of if you even can. Surely this is user-preference? Some software is just too simple for me - I want more control and configurability.
Looks: can you be specific?
Overhead: What overhead? Surely this depends on the machine. I admittedly have a high-end machine. Please don't talk about "most users" - tell me about your own personal experience. Do you have a slightly-spec'd PC?
Screen Real Estate: Again for me not an issue - I have dual 24-inch monitors. Presumably yu have a tiny screen and need the extra real estate?

As to downloading and trying for myself: I do that constantly. Can see small differences, but the differences make no difference, if you get what I mean.

I'd really like to hear proper examples.

This means that websites find it easier to redirect your traffic somewhere you were not expecting it (e.g. cross-site scripting), so your password actually gets entered in another site. Alternatively, they find it easier to install all sorts of malware on your PC without your knowledge.

I don't routinely do dangerous things on my PC, but I still use an anti-virus app. Similarly I try and avoid IE for the same reasons.

Please direct me to a website with cross-site scripting, I'd love to check that out. Which ones do you use where this is an issue?

yes, I don't like viruses.
I used IE for years, at home at school, I didn't know any better, till a friend introduced me to FF2, seriously, once you move onto the big 3 (FF, chrome opera)... you see what crap it really is.

and I like to make web developers jobs easier :p

Me neither, which is why I avoid them. But pray tell me how FF, Chrome and Opera stop viruses for you.

I'm after real-world specifics, not generalities, which are ten-to-the-dozen.

I'm rather brand-agnostic, so the label doesn't attract or repel me. I want deeper reasons.

to tell you the truth, i have never put either to the test, I hear these reports and feel better that I use FF and chrome. My choice comes down to 3 or so things, I trust MS to make is my OS, and I'm not 100% happy with that, 2nd the amazing functionality of Firefox with plugins, 3rd its open source

I used IE for many years and for most tasks it performs "ok". I then later decided to try FF and it felt noticeably faster. Also the addons allow me to tailor my browser to my needs completely which IE doesn't allow me to do. Because of my addons I can browse/work faster than I would ever be able to on IE.

With FF I have no-script addon, as well as Web of trust and ad block plus. These addons help me to "avoid" potential sites with malware or just general safer surfing. What does IE offer...?

Web of trust is brilliant! one of the 1st plugins I download

I personally avoid them. However, my neighbour fell into that trap, got her PC set up as a spambot. And no, I wouldn't post such sites in public, even if I kept a record of them. Too easy to mess something up, or confuse lists, as I found out before, the hard way.
