Internet Explorer versus Firefox

I used to use IE however it got so sluggish and crashed every 5 seconds. I use FF however I download IE 9 Preview and must admit Microsoft have done a lot of work and I think IE9 is going to push MS's user base up considerably. The last few updates from FF are terribly sluggish!!!!
 
I really don`t like IE, but sadly i have found a number of sites that gives problems when using firefox/opera/other.

Good examples are sites with drivers etc.

It`s almost like there is a plot for pro IE carps

The sites have minor niggles e.g. fill out a form & it won't save correctly under FF. After fiddling for 20 minutes the penny drops. Switch to IE and all works ...

When I switched to Windows 7 I switched [back] to IE, this time 64-bit. I am still busy downloading / reinstalling software to get to where I was, but thus far nary a wobble ..
 
I am extremely happy with FF and have no intentions of switching allegiance any time soon. All the apps and plugins make it an all round excellent experience.
 
FF is definitely the way to go. AdBlock Plus is probably the deciding factor for me. The add-ons on the whole are definitely what win me over and the customizable UI is also great. I have noted a bit of sluggishness/non-responsiveness of late in FF, but I'm hoping v4 will fix this.
 
The reasoning behind these stats is the summer period in the Northern hemisphere. Employers are smart enough to use Firefox or Chrome on their office computers, and when the soccer moms go home for their one or two week "staycation", they get on their Windows 98 IE6 to chat roulette with strangers.

Also, the kiddies are more at home. And we all know tweens love to play Farmville on IE 5.5.
 
I'd like to see stats on people actually downloading FF vs IE vs Opera vs Safari etc. The stats that show usage are skew because most users just use what they're given with their O/S. IMHO its like people who buy a cellphone and do not root/hack/jailbreak it. You do NOT get the full experience if you don't. Live a little, try anything besides IE.

Two nice things about IE8....

1. Looks very nice with Windows 7 aero theme.
2. The ability to only list bookmark icons on the bookmarks bar. Haven't counted it myself, but I guess you can fit in close to 40/50 icons on your bookmarks bar. Nice.

And that's about it.

I've tried them all, Safari 5, Firefox 3.6.8, Opera 10.6....but always come back to Google Chrome.

It's just the way it is.
 
A stupid user(normal people)lol.. will always just use the default from the OS.

Or is just that the "normal", "stupid" ones you refer to have better things to do with their time than trying to find a browser that can render porn 3 nano seconds faster...

FF, Chrome, IE, Safari and and are in the just Browsers if you strip away their extra bells and whistles. Most people use a Browser to... wait for it... Browse the web... LOL.. IE is fine for that...

Like I said, fanboys are out in full force :)

I know. I always seem to come back to Chrome. It is just a pleasure to use. Weird.

One thing that I am watching though is IE9 and it's graphic's card acceleration features. If it is faster and they make the UI more minimalistic I will move back to IE.

While I mostly agree there are times when I find IE struggling a little bit with JavaScript heavy pages. It really does affect my browsing. That said it seems to cope fine with Facebook, online banking sites and web mail and so 99% of the people in the world will use it without any hassles.
 
I had been tending towards chrome. But because of a couple niggly things I have gone back to FF.

can't remember the last time i came across a site that didn't work with ff.
 
I cannot fathom why anybody would use IE... weather it be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11, always crap and always will be,
if I'm ever in control of PCs I will install Firefox and chrome
