Hi everyone

Needing some advice on choosing the correct inverter for my Securi-Prod 100Ah lithium battery.

Context:

Replaced the lead acid battery in my Ellies 720W/1200VA Inverter trolley this December.
I was reassured by the team at GW that the drop in Securi-Prod 100Ah lithium battery will work with my Ellies inverter provided I keep the charge settings at 10amp.
All went well for about 4 weeks until this Sunday.
Loadshedding started and nothing from my inverter. It was dead, no lcd screen, no fan, no power

I took the inverter to Ellies in Woodmead and they basically dismissed me saying the inverter cannot manage lithium batteries. Apparently I was misinformed by the technical guys at GW.

So I now have a brand new lithium battery and no inverter

I would like to get it right this time.

Basically my requirements are basic - I need to power a TV, modem, laptop, 2 lamps and 2 desktop screens during Loadshedding

Any advice on which Inverter I should buy that will be compatible with my Lithium battery

have you recharged the lithium to test the inverter or is the inverter toast as in history ? can an aftermarket battery charger not be used instead of the ellies charger charging after the blackout.if the inverter side is still ok is it worth throwing it away for the sake of a charger .the sparky in me says modify it if its still viable .

It might just died, because of something else. It should been fine on 10a charging.

Best would be decent 3kva, which ramps up fans based on tempature and load. But would would need another battery for 24v.

Looks like a surge might of wacked the inverter. Do you only have 1 battery? Would you consider perhaps upgrading to a 3Kva and adding another battery? I do have a 12v Mecer instock with me but its one of those Jet taking off Mecer's with the MPPT. If you still want to stick to the 12V systems, then perhaps one of those Brick inverters with an external lithium charger.

Typical supplier response! No help in diagnosing if it is the inverter/charger or the battery that is the problem - just show the customer to the door.

That should be the first step before you go around looking for some other solutions. GW are also at fault here for pushing this BS story that Li batteries are simple drop-in replacements on LA inverter charger systems. They are not. GW should be able to help you verify that the battery is still okay before you spend any more money on looking for a charger.

They are simple. I will stick to my mantra of any 3 step LA charger will work (if 14.6V or less). Those inverters are just crap and blow up all the time.

Energy Independance recommended the inverter below (they dont have stock)

https://romtech.co.za/product/rct-axpert-vm-1000va-1000w-inverter-charger-12v-500w-pv/

Are the Axpert type inverters difficult to install/setup?

Apparently I also need the voltage settings for the specific battery

Looking for the easiest and cheapest solution to get the lights back on especially with Stage 6 Loadshedding

Thank you all for the assistance provided

I have that exact one over a year no problems. Only the fans make a heck of a noise.

Might be worth taking the cover off and looking inside, my SPS inverter blew four 12v 40A fuses which were soldered into the board, just be sure to disconnect the battery first and beware of getting zapped by the caps inside. If in doubt test for dead with a voltmeter.

Thanks Ivork

Dont all Inverters have noisy fans or am I mistaken ?

Apologies I am a novice with this stuff

Was it easy to set up the inverter - Connecting battery and setting the charge voltage?

A mate of mine has just sent me his inverter that he uses with a 100Ah 12v battery

Is this similar to the Ellies inverter and land me in the same situation ?

How long does that UPS take to charge a 100Ah battery?
